  • Band playing in the Red Carpet Lounge of the Pitts Motor Hotel in the 1950’s. “In the sixties, the Pitts Hotel was a showplace, and Cornelius Pitts was one of Washington’s most successful black entrepreneurs. His hotel attracted not only tourists and traveling businessmen but local customers, black and white. They lined up at the Red Carpet Lounge, which featured valet parking and a maitre d’, to listen to the likes of Aretha Franklin. “The place stayed packed,’ a former regular said. “The drinks weren’t that high. You didn’t feel like you were getting ripped off. The music was great. And the minute you walked in, you felt comfortable there.’ This photograph is copyrighted by Aladdin Color Inc and can not be reproduced in any way. • Earth Dog 1958 The Earth Dog is clever and genuine. He is known for being rational and supportive, stable and stoic. The solid Earth gives this Dog an element of security, he is inspiring and confident. Earth Dogs will be certain to hear both sides of any situation before making a decision. He is a trustworthy, diplomatic individual and often makes a great leader. In matters of Love the Dogs fares best with the Tiger, Snake, Rabbit and the Pig. Expect conflict with the Rooster and Dragon the Sheep will bore you Earth will absorb Water signs and be nourished. Earth will bear Metal signs. Fire signs create Earth, and Wood signs part Earth. With just these few simple concepts the Earth Dog can seek the partner of their greatest compatibility In short marry a Water Tiger, Snake, Rabbit or Pig Avoid the Fire Rooster. Dogs can be overly shy when courting someone. If they are interested, they want to make certain their intended mate is interested as well before expressing any feelings. They are emotionally sensitive people, and don’t take wounds to the heart easily. As a lover, Dogs are compassionate, supportive partners, eager to hear about your day. They share the highs and lows of being in a relationship and are known for defending their partners. Happy Dogs are more likely to want families than Dogs in joyless relationships. Dogs are simple and lead easygoing lives. They can have a tendency to be verbally mean and must learn to control their angry tongues. / Dogs make good partners and usually easy to live with. Their serious personalities may be boring to some, but to others it demonstrates an innate stability. As would be expected the Dog is a giving and compassionate personality. He offers plenty of kind words, support and advice to friends and family. He is a listener, always available to lend an ear or a shoulder to a friend in need. Dogs pay attention to people close to them and as such can know more about their friends than their friends know about them or even themselves! Dogs are incredibly attentive. If they share one fault it is not paying more attention to their own needs. In private, many Dog people worry a lot. Dogs can be a bit overwhelming, due in part to their attentive natures. Sometimes they can march in and take control of a situation, even when it doesn’t involve them. Money and status don’t much matter to the Dog. He is more concerned with the welfare of his family and friends. Dogs usually finish what they start. They are honest and trustworthy people, ethically strong and make loyal friends and companions. October is the month of the Dog and as such the Western astrological counterpart is Libra The Chinese lunar calendar is considered to be the longest chronological record of time, dating back to 2637 BC when the zodiac was first introduced. Each Chinese lunar year is represented by an animal sign. Lord Buddha realizing he was about to reach the final level of enlightenment requested a meeting with all the animals of the world so he could bless them. Only twelve animals responded. In recognition of their devotion, Lord Buddha then named each year of the twelve-year cycle in their honor. Each year is named according to the order in which the animals appeared before him. For centuries this system of five basic elements and twelve personality types has been used to help compatible couples find happiness and marital bliss. In the past matching was usually done by a village matchmaker. It is my intention to combine this ancient system of finding love with the modern internet. Millions of people use internet matchmaking sites only to find matches half way around the world. For a fraction of the price, you can buy your personalizes Chinese astrology shirt and the shirts of those best suited for you and start to wear them. Who knows a Fire Rabbit may just walk up to you and say “I have been looking for you all my life” Or you may be wearing a Water Tiger shirt and someone absolutely perfect says, “Hey that’s my sign” So let my grand social experiment begin

  • In 1958 you could still purchase milk by buying it in your own billy from a milkman who had churns on the back of his cart. In the centre of Melbourne the milkman went round not with a horse-drawn cart, but a motor truck with a flat tray so that he could put the cans on and off easily. None of the milk was refrigerated, as his was an early morning operation starting before sunrise, but still extending out to about 7.30 am when this was taken. In this part of Collins street there were cafes, and hotels, so he did a roaring trade.

  • Under the Clocks was where everyone met at Flinders Street. This meant both people who were waiting for a specific person, or in some cases people who were just cruising around. This was taken on my way home from work, and I was attracted by the light and shade. / There was a full scale map of the metropolitan area which my main figure is examining, and then over the entrance are clocks indicating for each route the time of the next train, and a small pull down piece under this showing any particular differences or connections with that service
