  • Water Snake 1953 Water Snakes are influential and insightful. They streamline organizations by the most efficient utilization of the existing staff. Water Snakes make the most of the least amount of energy. Motivated and intellectual they are determined and resolute about success. Water Snakes achieve their objectives despite any gain or loss involved as their primary concern is to be recognized and rewarded for their success. Cold and calculating at work they reserve their affectionate and loving nature for family and friends. Co-workers and colleagues would never glimpse this side of their personalities Snakes are beautiful people with tremendous sexual appeal. Sleek and seductive if they want you, if they want you they will have you. Once captivated by a Snake it is hard to stop thinking about them. Snakes are quite prejudiced when choosing a partner and select one based on physical qualities. Snakes need a partner who can appreciate their quirky sense of humor and mad cap approach to life. Though beautiful and tempting to approach, most people wisely choose to allow the Snake to do all the pursuing. Snakes can be jealous and obsessive about their partner. A bit stand-offish with their loved ones, Snakes choose to hide their emotions rather than confront these feelings and insecurities. If you betray a Snake expect revenge not forgiveness. As with all signs, not everyone can live and be happy with a Snake. The Snakes partner must be patient, and tolerant. / / Metal signs will collect Water; Water Signs will nourish Wood signs and quench Fire Signs. Water signs will be absorbed by Earth signs. With just these few simple concepts the Water Sheep can seek the partner of their greatest compatibility In matters of love Water Snakes fare best with the Sheep, Ox and Rooster. Avoid the Tiger and Pig. In short marry a Metal Sheep and avoid the Fire and Earth Tiger. Chinese mythology has a special revered place for snakes. When the Supreme God was handing out assignments to the lesser Gods for the supervision over all the creatures of the earth everyone expressed reservations at being held accountable for the dominion of the snakes. Finally a minor god agreed to watch over snakes and as a reward for his service the Supreme Being offered to the volunteer the supervision of good luck. Accordingly good fortune is directly connected with our attitudes towards the snake. Ancient Chinese wisdom says a Snake in the house is a good omen because it means your family will not starve. There are many interpretations of this omen. For one the Snake is a great business person and can negotiate fortunate situations. Or it could mean that a Snake would be willing to sacrifice his possessions, something most Snakes have in abundance, in order to pay for his family’s food. Regardless all stories are representative of the Snake’s character and the measure of the value the Snake puts on his material wealth. Snakes are keen and cunning, quite intelligent and wise. Though the starting day of the year may vary the majority of people born in the years 1905, 1917, 1929, 1941, 1953, 1965, 1977, 1989 and 2001 are Snakes. The Snake is intuitive, introspective, refined and more collected than any of the other Animal Signs. Usually attractive people they take crisis with ease and rarely become flustered. Graceful people, they are exciting and dark at the same time. Always contemplative and private, the Snake is never outwardly emotional. Cunning and reticent he works modestly in the business environment. The Snake will plot and scheme to make things turn out exactly as he needs them to. No great communicators they often, in their confusion, become quite possessive when they set their minds on achieving the interest of a partner. The year of the Snake is the sixth in the Chinese astrological order following the year of the Dragon and occurs every 12 years. The Chinese name for Snake is SHE, the sign of the sagacity. May is the month of the Snake and as such the Western astrological counterpart is Taurus. Snakes are acute, aware, cunning and proud but often vain, and vicious.

  • I think this is a 1953 Buick Skylark Convertible taken at the Krasl Art Center Concours show in Saint Joseph, Michigan. As usual, I was attracted to this shot by the contrast of the red, black and chrome. This is a crop from a wider shot, but I wanted to have a stronger positional relationship between the circle on the bumper and the circle of the headlight. Copyright © 2008 James W. • Though this car wasn’t in the best of shape, it reminded me of when I was a little boy, listening to my dad recount his own childhood as we walked through the Muddy River Run on a warm summer afternoon every year.

  • We stopped at a deserted farmyard just off highway 831, Alberta so I could capture some images it had to offer. Imagine my surprise when I found this gem tucked away behind a settler style shed. The stories this classic could tell about this time of innocence and it’s music would be worth a good listen for sure. A true treasure. / The Studebaker Brothers first started their wagon building business back in 1852, and by 1900 they were the largest auto manufacturer in the world. It’s indisputable that Studebaker played a significant role in transportation technology. For example in 1902 Studebaker manufactured an electric car, and Thomas Edison bought one of them. Some people hear the name Studebaker and think of the vehicle, or more specifically, the bullet nose cars from the 1950’s. Other people speak of Studebaker’s innovative, forward thinking (unique) designs and engineering. However, it seems most people remember the Studebaker because of its craftsmanship, reliability, power and high gas mileage for its day. / It’s now 2008, and this marks 156 years behind the historical Studebaker name in the vehicle manufacturing business (wagons to automobiles). Recently, Studebaker Motor Company moved its headquarters to Westminster, Colorado, and at the helm as President and CEO is Ric W Reed, who endeavors to raise funding for Studebaker concept designs, engineering, prototypes, safety testing, certification, manufacturing and distribution of production vehicles, to include motor scooters, motorcycles, passenger vehicles, pickup trucks, and quite possibly limos and taxis. / Information from Article on Google Studebaker / Canon Rebel XSI Sigma Zoom Lens 55 – 200 mm

  • My father in the early 1900’s was employed by a store in Bethanga Victoria to bring goods for sale to farmers and diggers along the track to Omeo. This area had by then lost its punch and was settling down to agriculture instead of the heady days of the rush to the area. This was my first visit in 1953, and it is so close to what it is now, I say that Omeo has stood still, but it is not a ghost town.

  • This is the 1953 Chevy that we pulled from the woods . Now it is sitting under the shed waiting resurrection . If you think it looks bad now you should have seen it before

  • Hello, dear RB-friends! Two years ago I made this photograph of the beautiful nature area ” the Schelphoek” at Serooskerke, about 5 km. from my house. Until 1953 this was this an agriculture area. / During the storm night of 31 January – 1 February 1953 the dikes broke at several places. By the enormous strength of the water deep gutters in the fields arose. These gutters have been stopped never more. / On this photograph you see one of these deep gutters. / The fields around these gutters have been planted with a lot of trees. And now, after 56 years, we can enjoy a splendid piece of nature, which has been caused by a big disaster. In the South-West of the Netherlands every year on the 1st of February the victims of the February-disaster are rememered.
