This was used for a (hypothetical) Vivienne Westwood print ad for the perfume Anglomania. Photography, Art Direction and Post-production work by me. Hair and makeup by me, Model is … me :P I was going for 18th Century English Aristocracy with a modern twist and a bit of sass, which I believe the Vivianne Westwood brand encompasses.
Got some photoshop lessons from the maestro…Betelnut, thanks mate!
What’s real: Me and most of the costume. / What’s not: The wig, the ship and of course, the background. I am a history fanatic and have read many times that statement was erroneously attributed to her. Regardless, it makes good theater.
A little slice of the history of Edinburgh, the Governor’s House on Calton Hill in Edinburgh. / Looking quite medieval, this is actually an early 19th century structure, the remains of the old Calton Gaol, a prison that was once on the historic hill. / Atmospheric evening fog and illumination came together to make this something special. Available as cards and a variety of prints – if interested in cards, on the preview page, please try with “black backing” as the artist intends.
Part of the old Native American Indian quarters of San Antonio’s San Jose Spanish Mission, Texas, USA. This 18th century mission is very well restored and is one of five in the San Antonio area, The Alamo probably being the most well known. This whole area is full of wonderful well documented and well displayed history. This is a spoof on an 18th century painting. I chose this bit of silliness as an excuse to learn how to paint satin. I find it much harder to paint satin with acrylics. The approach has to be entirely different than when I would paint in oils. Had to do a ton of glazing to get the same effects as I was able to accomplish in oils. Original ptg.: 17” x 24” / acrylic on canvas board artist’s collection

Hawa Mahal is a major landmark and a famous tourist attraction of Jaipur. The Palace offers a beautiful sight to behold. The splendid Rajputana architecture of Hawa Mahal, still speaks the glory of the royal family. However, one can also find a glimpse of Mughal architecture, which is blended perfectly to make it different from others. The literal meaning of Hawa Mahal is Palace of Winds. Hawa Mahal was built by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh in 1799. Hawa Mahal is a pyramid-shaped facade with five stories. It has 953 small windows decorated with tiny lattice work. These pink sandstone windows commonly known as “Jharokhas” are constructed in such a style, that it looks like a giant honeycomb. The air circulation through windows represents the marvelous touch of Mughal designing, which keeps the Palace always cool. The small screened balconies and arched roofs with hanging cornices enhance the beauty of the Palace. The Pyramidal outline and replication of pattern makes it more attractive in appearance. As a matter of fact, Hawa Mahal is believed to build for the women of the Royal Families, since they had to observe strict “purdah” (cover). The small windows and screened balconies serve the women to watch processions and different activities taking place on the streets. In this manner, the women could enjoy a sense of freedom without showing themselves. Early morning is considered as the best time to visit the Palace, when it is drenched in the golden light of the Sun. At this time, Hawa Mahal appears incredible. One cannot possibly describe the beauty of the Palace in words. The golden light of the early morning sun floats beautifully through the windows of this palace creating a wonderful sight for one and all. The palace has to be visited to experience the true beauty.

Originally built in 1783 through 1787 for the Dutch Consul, Daniel Gildemeester, This hotel is lavishly furnished and decorated, for the comfort of its guests. Jose’ da Costa e Silva, the architect of the Sao Carlos Theater, Lisbon, Portugal, is credited with the enlargement of the palace, in 1801. One is astonished upon entering, as details such as crown molding are as beautifully appointed as the Chandeliers which dot the buildings rooms. I can almost hear the conversation from one of the sitting rooms…. / “Darling, please call room service. I would like Eggs Benedict with sauteed mushrooms and tea for breakfast” “Of, course, my sweet, I would love to meet your every need” “Oh, thank you, Dear!” The walls are covered in many of the rooms with elegent and country scenes, perhaps reflecting the surrounding lands, in which children may have run barefoot, 200 years ago. Among the gardens, one can imagine late 18th Century patrons of the home, wandering, engaging in idle chatter or perhaps the philosophy of Jose’ Francisco…. Ah, the glory of magnificent Architecture, great conversation, and wonderful friends, is not to be passed over in any age. Portugal is replete with locations such as Seteais….
THE PROMISE / Best viewed large. / / The Frenchman Joseph Permet-Ducher is credited with the first discovery of yellow roses around the 18th century. After approximately 20 years of attempting to breed a hearty yellow rose and “THE PROMISE” to create one, Joseph stumbled upon a mutant yellow rose in a field. With this specimen, he was able to duplicate its structure and create the first yellow roses! / / A beautiful interpretation of yellow roses is the notion of renewal; yellow roses are a perfect way to apologize and to make amends. A bouquet of yellow roses reflects calm contentment, undying love, and comfort. Yellow roses tell a spouse or partner that you value them everyday and that you see them as the fulfillment of your needs. This flower and color are aptly associated with wedding anniversaries, especially for the fifteenth year of marriage. / / Nothing conveys real love, companionship, renewal, reconciliation, and friendship quite like yellow roses. These flowers stand alone in their meanings and serve a beautiful purpose for communicating messages of hope and “THE PROMISE” of love with the utmost sincerity. / BETTE MIDLER:THE ROSE Some say love, it is a river / that drowns the tender reed. / Some say love, it is a razor / that leaves your soul to bleed. / Some say love, it is a hunger, / an endless aching need. / I say love, it is a flower, / and you it’s only seed. It’s the heart afraid of breaking / that never learns to dance. / It’s the dream afraid of waking / that never takes the chance. / It’s the one who won’t be taken, / who cannot seem to give, / and the soul afraid of dyin’ / that never learns to live. When the night has been too lonely / and the road has been to long, / and you think that love is only / for the lucky and the strong, / just remember in the winter / far beneath the winter snows / lies the seed that with the sun’s love / in the spring becomes the rose. Laxman Jhoola : It is a beautiful sight about 7 km north of Rishikesh. There was a hanging just rope bridge across river Ganga (without pillar) till 1889 which was rebuilt with iron ropes in 1939. The suspension bridge has a span of 140. Raghunathji’s temple is the main attraction at Laxman Jhoola. Laxman is said to have visited this place and is believed to have done penance to wash his sins for having killed a Brahmin. The suspension bridge connects Rishikesh with Tapovan across river Ganga where a temple is dedicated to Laxman
