  • 1840 Series: 7 of 20
    by Jef Harris

    US$4.28–US$114.00

1840 v2.0 / With the original versions of these pictures I was not able to use all the shots because they where damaged. But now, four years later, and with Photo Shop CS3, I’m able to rescue some really great pictures and show them now with pride. / This series was done in the middle of the woods, around the middle of Dec, 2002. It was freezing! The hot chocolate helped though. Most of these pictures are with Theak & Alex standing together, this was not a direction, and they were doing this out of a need for warmth! Half of these pictures were taken using a Nikon F, or F2 I believe, (no markings on the camera), and the other half with a Canon G3 digital camera. / Great makeup job by Rhiana, and of course, the whole look and feel of this shoot would not have been possible if not for the styling of Elisa. / Photo by Jef Harris / http://www.jefharris.net

  • Looking Heavenward
    by Joanne A. Bradley

    US$3.99–US$79.80

The ceiling of Eglise St-Eustache is definitely the focal point of the interior. It is spectacular! Called a barrel vault it consists of a series of arches placed side by side. Because of the remarkable acoustic created by this ceiling, the Symphony Orchestra of Montreal has been recording it’s music here for over 20 years.

  • Pillar
    by Joanne A. Bradley

    US$3.99–US$106.40

A pillar is similar to a column which is a vertical support structure in architecture, but the base section is any shape but circular. It transmits, through compression, the weight of the structure above to other structural elements below, thus it supports the arches. In this case not only functional but beautiful!

  • Upon leaving the church I was caught up in a light rainfall. Several dark clouds had moved in. Standing in the parking lot I was enthralled by the dome roof and twin steeples I could see from the back. / The statue at the very front of the building is Saint Eustache himself. The patron saint of this area. A Roman military officer by the name of Placida, he converted to Christianity/Catholicism after having a vision in Italy of a stag with a crucifix between it’s antlers. The original structure of the church, prior to fire, was in the form of a cross. Legend says that he was seperated from his family in times of war and military service, and upon reunion with his family, he refused to take part in pagan ceremonies. Subsequently his whole family was put to death by fire. The altar of the church is decorated with beautiful art depicting various events in his life.

  • Celestial Beacon
    by Joanne A. Bradley

    US$3.99–US$106.40

My husband particularly liked this shot! The clouds had darkened considerably and all of a sudden a small opening appeared, right above the steeples, as if the heavens were sending a ray of sunshine to us below. “A human being is a part of the whole called by us universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feeling as something separated from the rest, a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and to affection for a few persons nearest to us. Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty.” Albert Einstein Featured in the Stillness Speaks group.

  • The Nave
    by Joanne A. Bradley

    US$3.99–US$106.40

Taken on Friday June 20/08. This is the interior of a splendid church I was able to tour. The church is called Eglise St-Eustache and is located in St-Eustache, Quebec Canada. Not to be mistaken with a famous church of the same name in Paris, France. / St-Eustache is a small city of approximately 40,000 people. It is located west of the island of Montreal on what is called the north shore. A significant battle of the Lower Canada Rebellion was fought here on December 14, 1837; the rebels were defeated and the town burnt. The Battle was to be known as The Battle of Saint-Eustache. / This church was built in 1780 but was part of the torching during the 1837 rebellion. This was a struggle over Upper and Lower Canada which eventually led to the formation of a new country. / Only the walls and the front entrance were salvaged. The present structure including a barrel vaulted ceiling was constructed in 1840. I am posting this photo to give context to some of the shots I took inside.

  • Blessed Light
    by Joanne A. Bradley

    US$3.99–US$106.40

One of the many stained glass windows, but this one in shadow. The stained glass in the windows is very simple and not as complex as one would expect in such a church. But it makes for a good balance considering how ornate the rest of the church is…
