hi all this is the roster as of the above date. the roster has been converted to a google calendar click the month view for best results. If you would like to add or change your dates, please comment below. / I will update the roster, write a comment under yours and renumber the roster. It is still shown below, for now (but I will remove shortly) Please note, due to formatting, I can only show the two shifts in order 10-2 and 2-6. they are separated by a comma, eg (10-2) fred, (2-6) junior If there are two people for the same shift, I will show it as eg rob/shaun This is a volunteer basis, so firstly, let me say a big thank you for all those who have offered their time. When you are there, you get to represent a lot of artists, who may one day, due to our collective efforts, may not have to do that day job as much!!! ( wouldn’t we all love that!) The aim is that we all help out and by giving time, we gain an enjoyable experience and share our art with the public who may also purchase the art. Bearing this in mind, please remember your afternoon arrival may be gladly awaited by the morning person who has other things on. Or, that keen early morning shopper may be waiting for you to arrive at 10am-there are lots of those at this time of year! We all appreciate your efforts to keep the commitments made. If changes occur, please notify someone who can replace you (and let me know) asap. I’m sure you all do the best you can, and together, as we’ve already seen, we can make amazing things happen. So thank you again, and I look forward to a massive opening night! december 10-2, 2-6 / / Tuesday 11 marilyn , / Wednesday 12 marilyn , / Thursday 13 marilyn , / Friday 14 Anne-Marie, Lee Burgess / Saturday 15 Lee Burgess , robert/miloman# Sunday 16 #marco , easy/miloman/steve / Monday 17 sam, sam, / Tuesday 18 sam , sam / Wednesday 19 marilyn/pateena now 2-6, steve/isabella / Thursday20 marilyn , Lee Burgess / Friday 21 adriana, Anne-Marie / Saturday 22 adriana, robert/easy/mayu Sunday 23 adriana /#marco/mayu, steve/john / Monday 24 steve, Sara l/ / Tuesday 25 christmas-closed / Wednesday 26 steve/sarah m, sara l, / Thursday 27 kristin/ rose, robert / Friday 28 kristin, sara l / Saturday 29 rose/andrew, robert/sarah m Sunday 30 sara l/steve/#marco , /steve / Monday 31 steve , sara l/mayu / Tuesday Jan 1 steve, steve / Wednesday 2 kristin, / Thursday 3 kristin, robert / Friday 4 kristin , jenny/ulla / Saturday 5 , robert* Sunday 6 mayu/ #marco sometimes, steve /john / Monday 7 isabella , /isabella / Tuesday 8 / Wednesday 9 isabella, isabella / Thursday 10 kristin, / Friday 11 kristin ,

I love my job. Totally love it. I had a shoulder decompression on December 13 2007. I wasn’t anticipating getting back to work until at least the middle/end of February. I spent almost 3 weeks in Adelaide recuperating at my Mum’s house .. eat drink rest eat drink rest etc … Get back home and the boss rings … can you use your arm yet????? Sure boss … what do you need? So I”m back into it. Today a big huge old gum tree fell apart. It’s one of those rather significant trees that the Aborigines used in their corrabories (spell that for me). Get a photo of that he says. So off I trot, all eager and stuff. I spoke to the gentlemen who lives accross the road and he warned me that there was a very large swarm of very very angry bees that lived in that tree and their hive is now all over the place … be careful he said. Sure I’ll be careful. I walk around the tree keeping at least 10 feet away … click click … no bees … Keep walking around more clicking … get closer … still no bees … hum bug … bees schmeeeez I walk around to where the best angle is and get in 3 feet away … bzzz bzzzzztt bzzzzzzzzzzzztttttttt bzzzzzzzzztttttttttttttzskdl;aaaaaaaaaaaasds()&@#)(#x%x%)(&)(&)()(Sx%x)DGS(&)( I really hope nobody got a photo of me running down the street with arms and legs waving all over trying to swat away annoyed bees. I made it to the car alive and one bee made it inside. I talked to it nicely and it left me alone. I love my job. I really do :) x

If you live near enough, and it is a sunny day, and you like photographing architecture, Salford Quays is as good a place as any to take your camera. / / The NW Group’s first meeting was on a grey, rainy day. Nonetheless, below are a few shots. / / Jan (gothgirl) and I waited just inside the Lowry Centre. I’d taken a couple of red balloons (the nearest thing to red bubbles I could find) and much to the amusement of the reception staff, who were most helpful by the way, Jan and I set ourselves a little pitch. / / We were joined in due course by Dave Robinson and Mike Finley and had some coffee and chat, went round the Lowry Gallery, watched the ‘Meet Mr. Lowry’ presentation – a really interesting insight into the artist as a man – and then, catching a lull in the rain, wandered around snapping shots, as you do! / / Here are a few of mine: / / / / / / / / / / / / /

The Waiting Game

Further to my Decisions blog entry, I’ve pretty much decided on the Nikkor 17-55 f/2.8. The lens will be used for people shots in tight spaces, often available light only, as well as the occasional landscape shot. It will be replacing my Tokina 12-24 and Nikkor 18-70. Nikon’s announcement of two new (non-DX) zooms yesterday, a 14-24 f/2.8 and a 24-70 f/2.8, leaves me with a decision to make. Should I buy the 17-55 brand-new now or wait for cheap(er) second-hand copies from owners “upgrading” to either of the two new lenses? Three factors to consider: / – the two new lenses won’t be available until November. With Nikon’s previous track record, they may not be easily obtainable until next year. Will second-hand copies pop-up before then? Will the price of a brand-new 17-55 drop as a result? – I have an overseas holiday in October. 17-55 f/2.8 means I can leave the 12-24, 18-70, and possibly the 50 f/1.8 behind. This is more about bulk and convenience than anything, as the 17-55 will weight not much less than the three lenses combined. It means two lenses in my bag instead of four, and it means less fumbling around with lens changes “on the go”. – I will be the second shooter at a wedding in November (unpaid favor for a friend). A wide f/2.8 zoom will be handy for tight available light situations where the 70-200VR is simply not practical. Hmmm… I think I may have answered my own question. Lens lust is such an evil thing. Shootout: T minus 17 and counting

It’s been a busy few days. On Friday night Jeewai and I checked out the office location at Mr Props house where we’ll set up our office scene, and talked about the movie. We also decided on using Gravelman as our back-in-office cop, because he has just the right voice. on Saturday night Me, Jeewai and Mr Props went to look at the train location at night to see what external lighting there was..none. Was very spooky the whole dark trainyard thing. zOMG I hope we don’t see any poltergeese on the night. Also, Jeewai remembered his sister has exactly the kind of dog we need, and got some footage. Yesterday, Monday, me and Jeewai took Storyboard Guy, Mr Props to our ext. locations and firmed up our shots. This is the first time they’ve seen the actual locations. Storyboard guy drew storyboard stuff on location for us to use later. Next, Jeewai and I went through and read the script out loud to “authenticate” the dialogue. We found all sorts of holes and things that sounded crap, so a lot of tweaking occurred. We also started talking about character’s “motivations” to try and solve some of these problems. It sounds wanky for a seven minute film, but when you’re working out how people are going to say something, you need to know what they’re like and how they get along with the person they’re talking to. that was a had slog. It took 90 minutes to go through 7 pages, which is ~7 minutes. We cut some redundant stuff out to make it punchier so hopefully we’ll have room to add in some cool credits without going over the 7 minute hard limit the competition imposes. I also did some timings with the dialogue. We have close to three minutes of actual dialogue in total, so everything looks on track. Meanwhile, Mr Props is arranging actors for the dead photos, and we’ve roped in an assistant artist/runner to work with him on the night. Each new person we have to bring in, it’s getting a bit harder to track and control, because each function goes off and does its own thing independently. I guess that’s how it’s supposed to work. We’ve just got to make sure we keep bringing in only reliable people that we implicitly trust.
