If each RedBubble member was 2 meters tall and if we laid us all end-to-end we would not circle the globe. We wouldn’t even come close really. And a lot of us would need to get up and go to the toilet while the others were getting ready to lie down. And just flying everybody in from places like Iran and Mexico would be a nightmare. So we aren’t going to do this. But we have now surpassed 100,000 members. Which is pretty phenomenally amazing, as it seems like only yesterday that Ed was explaining to the strategy we used to get to 50,000 members. To celebrate reaching 100,000 members we had a new logo competition running. We had a thoroughly inspired field of entries – here. Opening the envelope (drum roll), we have TWO winners Faizan and Edgeplus. Both will have their logo’s up for a week (they also get a little something for Christmas shopping). And for those of you who can’t recall our strategy here it is explained diagrammatically again. / Martin (aka Pilgrim)
Photo taken by collegue Simon Frankel. Then edited in Photoshop by myself. Thankyou to Simon for allowing me to post the photo. This was not a sand storm as some may think. Just over the hill was a raging fire that was taking control in 2006. They were taken at Pike River during the bush fire that burnt out around 120,000 hectares of scrub just north of the Riverland. / It was a mixture of smoke, stormy grey cloud and some sun trying to break through.

“Seward is located directly on Resurrection Bay on the southeastern Kenai Peninsula. It is a picturesque community of around 4,000 residents nestled between high mountains ranges that fall precipitously to the sea. Cottonwood and spruce surround the city, and alder grows on the surrounding mountains. Seward is the gateway to Kenai Fjords National Park, a stunning coastal marine setting rich in life that attracts eco-tourists by the boatloads. The downtown maintains a frontier-town atmosphere and just about everything leads to the numerous marinas on the bay. Seward calls itself, “Alaska’s Favorite Seaside Town”, and there is a lot of truth to that. For one thing, it is home to some of the finest sport fishing in the state. Anglers who travel here have the opportunity to venture into adjacent seas and catch giant Pacific halibut and trophy lingcod. While underway you can troll for the renowned king salmon or focus on fighting the much sought-after leaping silver salmon. Rockfish lay on the bottom, and pink salmon swim in between. And all of this takes place in and around Resurrection Bay at the edge of the Kenai Fjords, one of the most breathtaking costal panoramas of the entire region. Fresh water opportunities are available in some of the nearby streams with offerings of / king, pink, and silver salmon. Dolly Varden can also be found. While some of these opportunities can range from fair to even good, most anglers take to the surrounding seas or fish directly from the shore once the silvers have “hit the beaches”. Seward is justly famed for the rich fisheries resources not far from the harbor. With king (chinook) and silver (coho) salmon abundant in the waters of Resurrection Bay and nearby waters it is typical for anglers to come back at the end of the day with satisfying catches of salmon and the Pacific halibut that are also found nearby.” Read more here: seward alaska

Created purely to part-take in another wonderful competition sure to feature a wealth of talent… / To celebrate RedBubble hitting 100,000 members My design is a modern take using all the elements contained within the name… Red and bubble. Hopefully I have interpreted these in my design in a bold, interesting and memorable way. To get to the nitty gritty of the design rather than spell out the 100 000 I used the little bubbles (although nowhere near 100K) around the outside to symbolise this – they could also represent the artist community and the buyer community both directed into the centre. / Let me know what you think? My entry for RedBubble Logo I am thrilled that my design is a joint winner for the comp!!! / Congratulations to Faizan also ;o)

‘Split gill is one of the most widespread mushrooms on earth, growing almost anywhere where trees are found. Fungi that reproduce sexually, like Schizophyllum commune, aren’t limited to the two sexes that animals and plants keep to. This species has 28,000 different sexual types.’ (The Urban Panthiest) / These usally small and unobtrusive fungi are often overlooked as the topsides are a dullish white/cream/pink fuzzyness. But their spirit and make-up is incredible! / Of all the fungi world this one is beyond unique…with only 10 members in it’s family, the Schizophyllaceae.

Medium: Acrylic Paint on Acrylic Paper / Size: 12” x 16” / Description: Based on the fourth song on the Tool album of the same name, 10,000 Days is the second part of the Wings For Marie set. It was completed in early 2009. Because the song itself is surrounded in so much personal meaning to the singer, the piece was trick to approach. I wanted to try to convey something that was respectful and tasteful. The song is about the singer’s dead mother who, suffering from a long standing illness that left her wheel chair bound for 26 years (10,000 Days), was a devout Christian. The singer himself is an atheist and expresses his hope that he is wrong and that there is an after life, there is a heaven and that his mother deserved wings for what she went through. In my piece, I depict the Christian view of Death but instead, he is a psychopomp, a run of the mill ferry man of souls. I wanted to show a visual representation of what the singer was hoping for. A being, waiting for his mother in the after life, to take her up to heaven. Original For Sale: £200 Contact me at lloydharvey@shrunkenheaddesign.co.uk / www.shrunkenheaddesign.co.uk
