Flying island fantasy by James Iles
This was my entry for the Aerial Adventures contest on Cornucopia3d.com. / I sculpted the island in ZBrush in 3 sections which I brought together in Vue. / I quickly modelled the buildings in C4D on the day the entry had to be in. They were very much a last minute idea. I bought the steampunk ship model from the Cornucopia3d.com store.

With the rising of the Great Blue Moon and the coming of winter on Frali Gren there appears on the ramparts of the Fairly Mountains the castle of the Frost King. Some say the Frost King is but a legend or maybe a myth, still, the castle does appear with the Blue Moon and winter. / Many have being the heroes who would climb to the ice palace on the mountain, but all have failed. / When spring arrives the castle is no longer to be seen, It as being this way for a thousand years, and it may be another thousand or more before someone makes the climb and meets the Frost King. / Or they may find a different answer, if the king lets them return to tell of it. / Some say the castle is an Alien spaceship that comes to collect ice, yet another myth!

i initially did this a number of years ago and the render was starting to look a little dated so i re did this recently. I’m still trying to get up to speed after my shoulder injury so i needed a warm up exercise. did this using a wacom tablet (intuos 2), an Apple mac and corel painter 11.

Pleasure Dome - Dimension 6. by AlienVisitor
After the Gleee conquered the Sol system, ( I was going to say that was wrong, but “conquered” is the right word) they built pleasure domes throughout the galaxy. This is one near Jupiter. It wasn’t really a war, no shots were fired, nobody died, the Gleee just dropped by one day and never left, even their name sounded jolly. They are an amphibian race so all their moons and planets are terra-formed to include water. They had everything humanity desired, they offered us pleasure of any description, all of it produced in holograms, we could travel to untold galaxies, live in fantasy worlds, without leaving our homes and it was free for the asking. / We probably didn’t read the fine print, within 20 years they controlled the governments of all human space. We were no longer human citizens, we were members of the Gleee Amalgamation. Some still ask, did we sell out, I really can’t answer that, when you look at what we gained, no hunger, no money problems, humans now live for 3 times their normal span of years, no health problems,I can play games forever, life is sooo good. / Most of us don’t care,we’re happy, I mean a governments a government, right, their all the same, just a bunch of lizards.!! / And the humans who were in charge before never gave us all this, and even if they’d thought of it you’d have to sign your life away.

I built the ships and building in Cinema 4D and the landscape in Vue 8XStream. I used the new strata filter on the terrain to create the shape I wanted. / To get the depth of field I rendered out a depth map at the same time as the image and used it in the DOF Pro filter in Photoshop.

Earlier upload of this was a .psd…[My very bad:-( Xylopon Chronicles continued: Lunar living around 2075AD had resulted in some Lessons Learned: / Once the new colony, AlphaScorpio Outpost was firmly established; and the dome material known as Glaeel proved impervious to Xylopon’s Atmospheric storms, the construbots were programed to construct Hillary City, in anticipation of the final wave of transporters from OldEarth’s Lunar Colony. It should be noted that since the life work of a certain famous New York Senator, Women were officially in charge, since most male’s youth & Testosterone had led to most of OLDEarths ills; including but not limited to for-profit commerce, Poliitics, organized Religion, social classes & disease were wiped out. / In honor of those achievements, the second city was named after said Senator. Sci-Fi is a group for images, however created, and the written word. It is for those interested in sci-fi and who value originality in concept, design and execution. It is a group which aims to develop the skills of its contributors, to allow for cross-pollination and for collaborations.

No Fantasy, unless the moderators decide that the work has, in their opinion, enough of a Sci-Fi feel. After all, Sci-Fi is Fantasy :)
