Surreal Rebecca Sunrise by Garth Smith
Up at 5am to chance a morning shoot in good light revealed more than we could have hoped for. / Just as Murph & I had convinced ourselves that the sunrise wasn’t going to do much, we realised that we had better look for a foreground to look east instead of pointing the cameras at the sea. / Headed to Rebecca Lagoon on Tasmania’s west coast near Temma to get a double whammy of it by including the reflection and weren’t disappointed at all. / Big sky, magic water, foreshore reeds. / Does it get any better than this? / Straight from the camera this one. / How surreal is this. Magic morning indeed. / Trips to “the shack” are yielding excellent results so far. Must be the frame of mind and karma. / And it got better as we ventured further on foot for the next 4 hours or so. I can still remember my very first camera that my parents had given to me when I was about 8 years old. I took that camera everywhere and snapped shots of anything and everything, however it wasn’t until much later in life that I was really bitten by the photography bug. I was planning a big move to the Canadian Rockies and thought now is the perfect time to buy my new camera gear for shooting wildlife. I bought all the equipment I needed that would put me up close with all the wildlife that the mountains had to offer. So off I went chasing Bears, Bighorn sheep, Moose, Elk and Wolves… pretty much any critter I could capture with my lens. It was a fascinating and thrilling experience. Then fate brought to me a girl and she would change my life forever… Newfoundland is where I now call home, with my beautiful wife and baby son. This province is a photographer’s paradise. The scenes change from day to day and the opportunities for capturing them are endless. With my camera in tow I now begin my journey through Newfoundland, photographing and capturing her raw and rugged beauty to share with the world. I hope you enjoy the photographs presented here. It is a coastline marked with lighthouses that act as ever watching sentinels to welcome weary travellers home. It is a land of beautiful & quaint coastal towns, villages and cities. Newfoundland is a land visited by frozen giants from the North that create a sense of awe when seen by human eyes as they float down what is known as “Iceberg alley”. It is a land visited by massive whales during the summer that attract multitudes to the shorelines. It is a land rich in history and folklore and it is a land inhabited by a people who will welcome you with open arms. Containing one of the richest fossil beds in the world, the The Badlands National Park of South Dakota is now home to bison, pronghorn, mule and whitetail deer, prairie dogs, coyotes, butterflies, turtles, snakes, bluebirds, vultures, eagles, hawks and the black-footed ferret…..Sense of Place…you’ll find it around every corner… I have applied an Orton technique to this image. This is a group for photographers and graphic artists who are either currently available to undertake commissioned work, or those who feel they are ready and able, or aspire to be shortly.
The group maintains and publishes a list of its members their contact details, websites etc, and encourages members to exchange website links, tips, techniques and ideas pertaining to their areas of expertise or interest in the groups forums. We are constantly looking for ideas and opportunities to promote our members businesses outside of Red Bubble and welcome suggestions from our members.
The group’s gallery is used as a showcase for all of its member’s FINEST work. For this reason we ask that if you are unsure about a particular image you wish to submit then it is probably best to submit it for critique in the group’s forum FIRST, where other members can give honest and objective critique.
Thus the whole group becomes a directory of Photographers and artists that are available for hire and a sample of their work is available to view.
