I’d like to introduce to you all the “How do you do that?” Forum Moderator, Doug Greenwald. Please join me in welcoming him into his new position where he will be answering any photography based questions you may have. All you need to do is post a new thread and ask your question! Doug will be here to answer for you (and all other members are welcome to answer as well or throw in their two cents), and if he cannot answer the question, he will be beheaded…...no, I’m kidding! He will ask me and I will open up the question for group discussion through a bmail! So ask away, dear 101ers!

Beheaded? Works for me – solves all of my problems all at once :-)

Howdy all.

I’m Doug, Unix geek by day and photographer when time permits.

I’ve been involved with photography for about 20 years. I taught myself the basics shooting really bad landscape and much better flower pictures and quickly fell in love with macro photography. Being able to expose (so to speak) the underlying structure of flowers and everyday objects fascinates me.

I also challenged myself to low and available light photography because everyone told me how hard it was. I’m still waiting for it to be difficult…

When I took up photography I lived in Ohio (USA) where the weather presented the full gamut from hot and humid to cold and snowy. I could always find something interesting to take pictures of and only once froze the camera to the tripod.

Moving to Phoenix, Arizona (used to be pristine desert, not it’s just an extension of Los Angeles) put my muse into hiding until I started going to the drag strip. Now I’m using cameras that I bought and equipped for flower macros to take pictures of cars that go 100+ miles per hour. It has been an interesting learning experience.

I have a feeling I’m gonna be scanning a bunch of film as examples for this group. No worries – it’s a good thing, I’ve needed the incentive :-)

Ask away. I don’t promise to know everything, but we can learn together.

Great intro! So Ohio, huh? Do you route for Ohio State then?? (cough cough, Ew, cough) At least I’m not a wolverine though, I’m a Spartan!

And Arizona??!!! I’m so jealous! My hubs and I have always thrown around moving to Arizona. Its so random, but if we ever moved out of Michigan, it would be to Arizona. No reason in particular, thats just where we want to go! Haha!

I pretty much ignore football – had my head buried in computers during my formative years. But it was interesting watching my uncle, who is a slobbering football fan, move from Ohio to Michigan :-)

Don’t be jealous of Phoenix. It’s just another big city. We’re going to move back to Ohio when we can. It’s time to be closer to my folks as they get older and we can get a house and 10 acres in Ohio for the cost of a small house here in Phoenix.

Hi Doug
Thanks for putting time and effort into this site. There is so much to learn and being able to do that from someone elses experience is a great way to start.

No problem. I joined this group with the intention of being able to help and in doing so, maybe kick-starting my seemingly lost artistic muse.
