Waterfall critique

Hi, Jason! I think it would help the critique process if the image was posted larger. It’s a little difficult to see all the subtle nuances with it so small. |

Hi, I forgot to mention, click for the larger image. |

i agree with your initial thoughts. technically great in terms of color and exposure and all but the compo does not do it for me. I also know the frustration of not being able to get int he right spot for the shot….looks like a case of that. |

Thanks mate, appreciate it. Had a quick look at your gallery too, some real interesting concepts and nice star trails. |

The pond looks almost too still to give the feeling of the water in motion. Maybe a shorter exposure would look different. |

Yeah, I didn’t want to risk sharpness or noise so I kept it at f/11 and iso 100, so not much I could’ve done without a few flashes which would’ve required even more clumbering over rocks, but that’s the price I pay for not wanting to spend too long there I suppose. Cheers John, a good point mate, there’s no ripples or sign of entry from the flowing water at all really. Ta. |

Hey Jason. It’s (as you say) technically very good. To me the issue is only that it just doesn’t have a lot to “say”. It’s kind of not taking me there. It’s making me think about exposure control and great technique and stuff instead of wishing I was at a waterfall in a beautiful place …. it kind of goes to why we press the button in the first place! if you get what I mean. :-) |
