This vygie, Lampranthus aureus, is a neatly rounded, erect, small shrub that grows up to about 400×500 mm. The leaves are paired, free or slightly fused at the base, dark green and grow to 50 mm. The most attractive aspect of the plant is its unbelievably bright orange flowers. The shiny orange flowers are borne singly or in clusters on short stalks, are 60 mm in diameter and appear from August. Lampranthus aureus occurs in a broad band along the southwest and west coast of Western Cape, South Africa

I’m not sure the name of this building in downtown Omaha, Nebraska. I’ve seen it a hundred times from a distance but never realized how cool it looked up close until the day I took this. Cannon 40D 10-22 EFs.
Final of my 2:14am series ... maybe. What If? / Two very intriguing words. I find it hard to think about all the different Lives in this world, and how you can only be one. ONE! in the trillions and trillions and trillions you could have been in the past and future and you are only One… it is amazing. / It beats at my mind, it proves how insignificant one life is no matter what you accomplish. You spend 80 or so years, if you’re Lucky, being this person, in this time, doing whatever it is you are doing and thats it. You have no idea what it would be like to be another person, in the distant past, future or in the now. there are 6 billion here in present time, You may think you are 1 in 6 billion, but when you put in all those that have once lived, going back to the first spark of human life up to now and then you add the many many MANY more yet to even be close to dawning this world you feel like nothing, a grain of sand against the largest Star, or even less. Think of all those people you could be just by making one little change, If you made that green light, if you didn’t trip over that gutter, if you had eggs for breakfast instead of cereal today or if you never saw this image. It seems insignificant, but its something you will never know the effects of, all you know is what you are now because what you have or haven’t done. You are a completely different person because of it, it may not seem it but thats only because you do not know the other side of that moment that you just let blow unnoticed right in front of your eyes. One of my favourite things to photograph is sea weed. I love the textures and colours and the patterns formed when it sits there on the beach, the wind and water moving it this way and that, forever changing it. My mate Tim has been wanting to get out on a night shoot with us for a while, so last night we finaly got together. I found it really hard to get a good shot of Flinders Street Station as there was a lot of traffic and when I moved to a high point there was a pole in the way. The division between Big Beach and Little Beach was caused by a lava flow and earthquake in approximately 1790. The hill dividing the beaches is called Pu’u Ola’i or Earthquake Hill. Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi / Currently with 2738 Views, _Mahalo :))) “At the northernmost corner of the Polynesian triangle, the Hawaiian Islands stand as a sentry for a collection of atolls, volcanic remnants, coral blocks and large islands that punctuate the region stretching to Aotearoa (New Zealand) in the south and Rapa Nui (Easter Island) in the east. Hawai’i is the newest landmass in Polynesia and the most isolated settled area on the globe, rife with unique ecosystems. Maui, sitting in the middle of the main Hawaiian island chain, is young geologically. Haleakala, still volcanically active in the 18th century and now considered dormant, rises 10,023 feet. The older and more eroded West Maui Mountains are 1.3 million years old. The tallest point at Pu’u Kukui – 5,788 feet – is one of the rainiest spots on earth. Ka’anapali is on the leeward side of these mountains of West Maui on the slopes facing the islands of Lana’i, visible on the horizon in this image and the beautiful island of Moloka’i.” Information Source Canon EOS Digital Rebel XTi / Shooting Date 30 September 2009 / This is a composite of two images taken on the same location at the same time stitched one over the other / Currently with 2826 Views

My wife and I recently spent a week in the Barrington tops region north of Newcastle. Not only is it beautiful country but it is close to home. Our first night there a storm was passing just to the south of us through Dungog. This was a lightning strike close to us and the flash illuminated the rain falling from the clouds. As the storm was far away I had the apeture open to f4 which is fine for distant lightning but terrible for a close flash. I have had to adjust in Camera Raw to get the details of the lightning stike as good as I can. not other adjustments have been done. Image taken with a Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm lens at f4 and 30sec exposure.

During our visit to the Barrington region we stayed at the Barrington Retreat cabins. They are located just outside the Chiseter Dam. The creek runs past the Picnic viewing area and this little rapid with a small area of rainforest was there. The mossy rock and tree caught my eye and I wanted to catch a Pano of it showing the creek flowing past. This is a 2 image Pano shot with a Nikon D300 and the 18-200mm VR lens. A polariser and a 2 stop ND filter had the exposure time at 8 seconds at f16. The images were combined in CS3.
