Home Improvement T-Shirt

Home Improvement

I have always been a fan of Escher – his sense of perspective and composition is just amazing. This design is based on his 1953 Lithograph called Relativity that depicts a paradoxical world in which the normal laws of gravity do not apply.

I decided to put a twist on this, where the architectural structure is going through a ‘home improvement’ with the people giving it a once over with a coat of paint.

Please note that the colour of the paint depends on the colour of shirt the design is placed on. The example below demonstrates what it would look like on a yellow shirt.

I’m a huge fan of Escher, and this is a great tribute to a truly amazing man. Very clever touch with the transparent paint.

    Nice work!

  • zomboy replied

thanks Lund. You know as I was working through this design I grew more and more respect for this man. Seriously, I did a large component of this design using 3D software, and his perspective checks out!! Bloody amazing!!

  • MangaKid

    MangaKid

absolutely brilliant work zb and a fine appreciation for one of the truly innovative artist of all time…imagine what Escher would have done with todays tech and considering so much of his work was created as a woodcut…staggering really…
You have achieved a very impressive level of art and design here…. well done

  • zomboy replied

I was thinking just that the other day bro….. Im sure there would be a period where he would just sit down and lose his sense of direction, simply because a lot of what he did can be done so easily these days. If it was not for his art I am sure that 3D software would be quite different in its approach. But then exactly as you say he would have utilised todays technology to create something truely amazing – the fact that he achieved what he has achieved through woodcut is staggering indeed, the detail, accuracy etc just blows me away, and of course his concepts are really cool.

  • armadillozenith

    armadillozenith

    very clever, much respect!

Escher is an artist-hero for me, too.. along with Hergé (creator of Tintin).

  • zomboy replied

Im glad you feel the same about Escher… I have never looked at the artwork of Hergé, I have seen his Tintin books of course that I loved as a child. I will go and look for some of his other work now I think…

  • straylight

  • Diesel Laws

    Diesel Laws

Superb, and very good use of transparency!!

  • zomboy replied

Thanks Diesel – the transparency was the product of a brain storm session between me and my design partner. It works well because this is a 3 colour design only (could have reduced it to two with halftones but decided against it).
