The British Aircraft Corporation TSR2 was designed, developed and 23 aircraft built in the late 1950s, early 1960s as a supersonic (mach 3) terrain following aircraft capable of carrying nuclear and conventional weapons.
It’s highly sophisticated systems eg forward looking and side looking radar were well ahead of their time when, putting forward various excuses the government of the day cancelled the project and scrapped TSR2………….
In the 1970s the smaller swing-wing Panavia Tornado was developed and adopted by a European consortium to fulfill broadly similar requirements to the TSR-2.
