Information from Wikipedia:
Warwick Castle is a medieval castle in Warwick, the county town of Warwickshire, England. It sits on a bend on the River Avon. The castle was built by William the Conqueror in 1068 within or adjacent to the Anglo-Saxon burgh of Warwick. It was used as a fortification until the early 17th century, when Sir Fulke Greville converted it to a country house. It was owned by the Greville family, who became earls of Warwick in 1759, until 1978.

Text from the Gallery of Modern British Artists:
The tower in the engraving was named after the legendary champion of the castle, the redoubted giant Guy. Its walls are 10 feet thick and 128 feet high. It was built by Thomas Beauchamp, earl of Warwick, in the latter part of the fourteenth century. The entrance to the iimcr court is flanked by embattled walls, richly clothed with ivy;and the deep moat, now dry in security, and containing at its base a velvety.path, is hned with various shrubs, and ornamented with trees of vigorous and noble growth. The disused moat is crossed by a stone arch where was formerly the drawbridge ; and the entrance is by double towers, through a series of passages, once big with multiphed dangers for the intruder

Very nice Dennis. A view from the Mill garden i believe? I was lucky enough to move to Warwick from my birthplace of Coventry about 5 years ago. A beautiful town. I have a photo of a view of Warwick castle from the St Nicholas park bridge which spans the Avon on my profile if you wish to view? An incredible castle that us locals are very proud of. Great piece Dennis. Gary – Warwick

  • Many thanks :)
We used to visit Warwick Castle when my children were young (long time ago) and in those days took lots of photos (no longer in my possession I’m afraid.
