My vector drawing of the vintage Adler 10 limousine 1913, based on drawings from the blueprints.com site
Adler was founded by Heinrich Kleyer to manufacture bicycles. By 1898 the company had sold over 100,000 bikes. Their first automobile was built in 1900 using a single-cylinder De Dion engine placed in the front and was fitted with a three-speed transmission with a column gearshift. In 1904 Edmund Rumpler, who would later become successful with his own cars, designed Adler engines with two and four cylinders with capacities of up to 7.5 litres which delivered 50 horsepower.
Kaiser Wilhelm II was a regular customer of Adler’s, something that generated a great deal of free publicity.
In 1913, Adler offered 8 different models but World War I would bring and end to the company’s prosperity. After the war, Adler almost went bankrupt due in large part to tremendous inflation in Germany. The company was rescued by a take over from Deutsche Bank but production would not be restarted until 1925 with the introduction of two new models powered by six-cylinder 2.5 litre and 4.7 litre engines. The new models were a sales success, mainly due to their high prices. Fortunately, Adler had better success with the new 1928 Adler Favorit, an inexpensive 2.0 litre car that proved to be popular as a taxi.

When I was at school I used to help a local butcher at the weekend. This is like the van he used as a mobile butcher’s shop (it was antique then:)
