An impressionist digital painting, using Andy’s brushes in DAP plus Gimp, of "Columbus’ ships’’ : The ‘’Santa Maria’’ is shown as a carrack, and the ’’Niña’’ and ’’Pinta as caravels.

The original painting was done by Gustav Adolf Closs circa 1892
An out of copyright black and white copy was used as the basis of the digital painting.

A carrack or nau was a three- or four-masted sailing ship developed in 15th century Western Europe for use in the Atlantic Ocean. It had a high rounded stern with large aftcastle and forecastle and bowsprit at the stem. It was usually square-rigged on the foremast and mainmast and lateen-rigged on the mizzenmast.
