After my bypass operation in 2005 I decided that I would take up painting sailing ships.
I bought lots of paints, brushes and things and then thought, what do I do now….

On a small piece of paper I drew a brig which wasn’t bad and then, on a larger piece of paper, I drew a Clipper Ship. I then added colour & shading with pencil, coloured pencil and splodges of watered down acrylic paint.
The result was this Clipper Ship but, I finished up with just a very small thumbnail (on Picasa) because I threw away the drawing years ago.
With the magic of computers and using reshade,Gimp, Andy’s brushes on DAP and SmillaEnlarger I finished up with this 3100×2200 copy for posterity.

I have opened a shop with CafePress to sell some of my designs on clothing, iPhone & laptop cases, jewellery and lots more:

It has the appearance of a etching on glass!!!! A really excellent creation!!!! Bill

  • Glad you like it Bill :)
I have drawn and painted lots of clipper ships since this one but, this particular drawing is really the basis for them all.
I only wish that I had kept the original or at least a decent photograph.

  • Thank you very much Troy :)
I wasn’t sure that you would accept this Clipper Ship after I enhanced my drawing with colour & paint but thanks awfully for the feature – just great :)
