My drawing in the Inkscape vector format (no auto trace/copy) of a Short Sunderland flying boat.of the Canadian Air Force. The sky is a DAP digital painting and the sea was created in Gimp.

No image may be reproduced, copied, edited, published, or uploaded without my permission.

At the peak of its career, the Sunderland equipped squadrons; by the close of hostilities, had been credited with sinking 28 submarines and shared seven other “kills” with Allied surface vessels

This is fantastic work Dennis! You can almost smell the spray!

  • Thank you very much Leigh :)
The mix of flight and sea are great for me – I am ex RAF and was a ‘yachtie’ for 22 years :)

That is cool! Did you have a camera back then? know cameras were’nt common then. It must hacve been interesting!

  • The Sunderland was used as a war plane during WWII and although I was born during the war I was still only 3 when it ended :) Oh yes I was in hospital with scarlet fever at that time and remember much of ‘this’ episode.
I do remember my first camera but this image is made up in my imagination :):)
