Vase - Shade and Tone Test

I was in art the other day and i was trying to do shade and tone, i kept failing so i decided to practise. When i did this i cut out the vase and stuck it down onto another sheet of paper because the other was all smudgy. I think i managed to do it o.k and have erased some problems on my p.c.
Hope You Like it =)

Very well done Jake, I think you’ve done really well here. Shading isn’t easy but you’ve certainly managed to create depth and a good sense of lighting so well done. I’m trying to set up another art club at the moment so i’ll let you know if it happens! (though it’s likely to be in chichester if it does…)

Anyhoo, really good attempt little buddy. Don’t be afraid to go really dark with your shading if you have to… sometimes a deep black works really well against lighter shades of gray. Also… using a rubber like a pencil can help to create extra realism by enriching the white.

Just to add… I love how you’ve added the red – always like a flicker of colour amongst an otherwise black/white picture ;-)

Out of interest, did you see my new work? I hope you like them. All the best dude.

Thnx, i definatley want to find out more about your art club :) and yes i did see your new art. The grim reaper one with the boy was my favourite. Thanaks for ur help, really appreciate it. With making the shading darker i actully did keep going back and making it darker and darker but i decided to stop once i had got here but now that i look at it i see that it still quite light. I got the idea of one colour from ur art. I feel a bit guilty taking the idea but i does add that little extra to your work. If you could message me on Fb or Rb about ur new artclub that wud be gr8. :P bye
