Weighing Down The Easy Smile

Lying on shattered glass
Contemplating perfectly still
Purpose is apparent (somewhere)

In the recesses
Attempting hide and seek time creates
A rhythm of rising descend
I rise and fall
in this journey carousel
Eager to catch the brass
Until the veil falls black
Burying me in an avalanche
Of labored breath—-inhaling, exhaling
A voice whispers is this all there is

In faraway dreams I am a bird with
Golden wings flying through the air

In reality I’m divided by the pendulum swing
Great expectations & raw emotion
Anchored securely tight
Weighing down
The easy smile

Weighing Down The Easy Smile by

I’ve dealt with clinical depression the majority of my adult life. And while I took medication for depression for years, I found a better way to cope—I say for me, everyone is different in how they handle their lives and what works for them. AND even though I’m much less depressed these days I still have those days.

I laugh at my too serious self except when I am too serious then life is very dark indeed. I wrote this during a down time….waiting for the black days to pass. If you happen to read this and you empathize just know that this is but a blink of the eye and via the BIG picture, it’s all good.

I’m basically a self taught artist who has flirted with painting and drawing throughout my life, however, due to circumstances, until recently, I had to put that aspect of myself on the back burner.
Not long ago I discovered photo-manipulation which led to an interest in photography. And here I am today having a ball learning and enjoying the process of creating. And even though I strive to improve constantly; to me it’s about the journey not the destination.

I admire your attitude and beautifully chosen words
knowing that words come from the real place in us, dark or bright, gives them that special touch

  • Vesna, thank you very much! :-)
