One of my tributs to the now demoloished Iconic cooling towers next to the M1 Motorway In Tinsley, This was taken about 18 months ago whilst the debate about their retention was still raging. brilliant shot,,, love the sky, and the colours you have captured,,, and although they are now gone, at least we can all share in this image,,, well done
Glen Allen replied
Thank you, as I said before I took this nearly 18 months ago or so and it has been one of my best selling images. Folk were really attached to these towers, pity they came down.
Robert Hardy
Cracking shot, superb lighting and sky. I’ll miss them next time I’m passing!
Glen Allen replied
Yea I gotta say it has been a few weeks since I was that way it will be odd now not seeing them as I whizz past on the M1!
Linda Syms
All the times we have passed these towers i could only see one,its sad they are gone now but i suppose other people would think they were a blot on the landscape.
Glen Allen replied
I am sure that there are lots of people who think they were a blot on the landscape, but then that misses the point rerally doen’t it? If you take a look at other cooling towers there was something a bit different about these. They were a testament to mans inginuity and ability to harness the forces of nature and to provide for himself.
They were allso a teastament to mans negative impact on the environment but now they are gone both lessons are lost except in memory.
Thanks for the comments.

are these the ones by the M1 at the sheffield junction?
Glen Allen replied
That is them. Did you see it on the TV?
soos
no…didn’t know anything about it til now!
Glen Allen replied
I see, they are/were local landmarks and there was a group fighting to retain them and get them trafsformed into works of art. Abut 18 months ago I turned them into flower pots and a briolly stand you can see them here they are a couple of pages in on this gallery. I intend to do some more when I ge tthe time lol.
