This beauty was shot in Argentina, on the road from Colonia Carlos Pellegrini to Mercedes. Colonia Carlos Pellegrini is in los Esteros del Iberá, a beautiful tranquil nature reserve and bird paradise.
Not that you need to go to a nature reserve to see the birds, a lot of the are also easily spotted from the road up there. Actually, there’s a bird of prey almost on every pole that you see! Fights for survival between small and large birds are common as well, I think we saw three battles around nests.
At a certain moment we just had to stare straight ahead, trying not to see anything else but the road, in order to get of there before dark. It’s not a road you want to be one after nightfall. ;)
I hope I got the name right. I love birds but don’t know much about them. I looked this guy’s name up in a little booklet we bought at a local ranger station. This bird is very common in Argentina and you’ll run into him just about everywhere you go.

Besides this guy we also bumped into Donald Duck when travelling in Argentina, here’s the proof:

Wow. What a great looking bird and awesome beak.
That beak just might be the reason why he wasn’t scared of me at all. He let me come pretty close, luckily, as I only have a 250mm lens (x1.6)

I couldn’t agree more about the bird, it’s beautiful. Luckily you are treated to a lot of sightings of it when traveling through Argentina.
