Here is another still life from my “Nostalgia” series. This too is created with the “painted with light” technique and digitally enhanced. The typical effect of that technique is less noticeable here though.

The lovely old camera is an Agfa Billy I for those of you who are interested.

dont laugh at our war path attempts against the boers.
they had sharp spoons you know – we could have got hurt.

  • I didn’t even know you were involved. Maybe I should read that book instead of photographing it.

us aussies like getting into wars that have nothing to do with us.
out of misplaced loyalty we headed into that one cos we liked to think of ourselves as loyal british servants…
now we dont go to war for other countries
    LOL.

thankfully we took their spoons away.

I’m not sure if I’ve ever hear of “painted with light” though something
about it seems very familiar! I’d be interested to learn more about that technique
for sure, because lighting is of utmost importance to me in photography. You’ve
brought an old world feeling to this photo, and the movie title “Out Of Africa” springs
to mind. (a favourite of mine. :) I like this very much!

  • Thanks Birgitta. Painted with light means, basically, that you make it pitch dark and start waving about with a flashlight. You literally paint stripes of light over your subject this way. I can highly recommend a look at the work of Emil Schildt (nude art). His work is what inspired me to give it a shot, though our subjects are completely different and I don’t even come close to what he creates.
