FIRST PRIZE at the 2010 Joker travel photography contest

Grafton, the Jacaranda city, smack in the middle of the Jacaranda festival, the day after Purple Day itself. Unfortunately the weather was very uncooperative and the trees, well, the flowers at least, had suffered from the rain and wind. I tried to shoot a photo that portrayed the mood of that day yet still capture a little of the beauty and magic of the place.

As usual shot with my loyal Lumix LX3.

Sold as a Canvas Print, Large (610mm x 343mm)

Fantastic portrail of a wet Jacaranda in Grafton Peter!! Its only 40km north from my home!! We used to go up on ‘Jacca thursday’when the shops put on displays and then closed at lunch time…thats when the pub visits started!! LOL..what a day/night!! *-)

  • I told you we’d gotten a lot closer to your home. ;^)
It’s a lovely place and we still enjoyed it, the rain stop falling for a while when we were walking around but still we missed the sun to bring out the true vibrancy of the Jacarandas.

You mean this is real?! How wonderful! The photo, I mean, and the tree and imminent storm, unique lighting—super shot!

  • Of course it’s real! What did you think it was?
I saw this image in a puddle and knew I had to shoot it. :)
Thanks for you enthusiasm Jan, much appreciated indeed!
