This one is very special to me and, although I made him look maybe just a little to stern, I’m very proud of this painting, my second watercolour portrait ever.
The man you see is my fathers father, my grandfather, and I painted this work specially for my father. A few days ago I gave it to him as a present, for no reason what so ever. He was surprised to get a present out of the blue, he was blown away when he opened it, and silent for a while….
Painted using a combination of Talens dry paint, Talens tubes and Monte Marte tubes on Arches cold pressed 300g/m² paper, A5 size. I also added a pinch of my secret ingredient, my Hama retouch watercolours, a left over from my analogue photography days.
