Me and my love

Me and my love

I seriously doubt that anybody is going to buy a grainy card, poster or print of ugly old me but I nevertheless wanted to share this work with you. ;)
It’s one of those works that in real life gets tons of reactions when people see it hanging on our wall. I’m curious to see whether it will provoke any reactions here on this wonderful art community.

In truth, this is only half the artwork. The other half has agreed to being upload to redbubble too, so, here she is:

Showcased in Pay it Forward after a nomination by picketty because:
°°°
I have to nominate this fine work as my all time favourite because it has imprinted itself on my memory. I love the subtle colour treatment and the way the image halts me in my tracks. There are so many beautiful images, I have pages of favourite,... . but for me this is the most memorable.
°°°
Many thanks for this gigantic compliment!

I happen to think it is an extraordinary image, Peter. I have always been captivated by the hint of it as your avatar. The positioning of your “front” left hand in particular is singularly evocative, but also now we see the full, deeper, meaning. There is much to this creation, and to see it on your wall must be quite a sight. Thank you for sharing it!

  • Peter Zentjens replied

Thank you for this elaborate comment Peter, much appreciated.

In response to your question, I was refering to the concept behind the image, its as if there is a threesome going on between you, your partner and your alter ego. Your alter ego seems to be jealously keeping a tight grip over you making sure you dont slip away.. Thats how I see it any way haha. I like the other half too.

  • Peter Zentjens replied

    Wow, love your interpretation. :)
Thanks for sharing. I always like to know what kind of thoughts or emotions my work provokes.

What a fantastic image, you should be very proud of yourself to be able to express your love in this creative way… and to have it returned to you… in that your lady love.. allowing herself to be photographed thus reciprocating hers for you. Hope that makes sense…Thumbs up from me!

  • TubularBelle

    TubularBelle

Double WOW! I am just amazed at the whole thing but the way that hand sits so perfectly aligned with your second head just blows me away. Can I ask how long this took you to do, or is that too personal a question?

  • Peter Zentjens replied

Hi, and thanks for both comments first.
Now, as to how long, I don’t quite remember. Taking the pictures was reasonable fast, but the Photoshop work took me quite a while. I spent hours upon hours, day after day on it. I wasn’t so profound in Photoshop back then.
As for the hand, it’s the hand that belongs to that head. I worked the whole shoulder and arm into the body of the first head in such a way that it looks as if the arms in the back belong to the second head while it’s the other way around. Boy, I’m even confusing myself!

    Thanks Vlad.

  • Michael Matthews

    Michael Matthews

I think this is a fascinating image. My first impression was that the self hugging was an expression of self approval/appreciation .. love in a spiritual (not egotistical) sense. Then I saw the face in the sphere & saw what you (probably) meant. Definitely far from ugly but I appreciate your humility.

  • Peter Zentjens replied

Lol (about the last part of your comment), and thanks for this in depth comment, I appreciate your time and thoughts.

This is brilliant Peter! The 2 images together must be a joy to see everyday on your wall, evoking lots of happy memories.
A fantastic and creative idea, brilliantly executed.. I love the twisting limbs in this piece… very cleverly put together. Great tones and emotion and an all round winner for me!

  • Peter Zentjens replied

Thanks Paul and yes it is great to have these on our wall. :)
Maybe an idea for you and your love? Congrats by the way, just read that you got engaged! Nice spot to “pop the question”! I chose the crater edge of a volcano in Tongariro, New Zealand. (Nice and handy should she have decide “no” was going to be the answer. ;^) )

I have to admit I was a bit disturbed by only the thumbnail but it made me want to check it out and see the whole truth of the matter. Here is what I learned from your piece…I can see a part of something or a glimpse and make incorrect assumptions, thus shutting down further discussion, exploration, etc. Or, I can listen to the part of me that is confused, disturbed and explore these feelings by being in the process of discovering.

I may or may not arrive at the same conclusions as my assumptions. The important point is whatever my conclusions or final feelings are, they are informed and engaging, not judgmental and made in mere seconds. This work made me think, feel and process…that is great art! This is a bit more transparent than I would like to be, but I felt it important to tell you the impact of your work.

  • Peter Zentjens replied

And isn’t impact, evoking, creating emotions, what art is all about?
Thank you Lynn, thank you very much.
    Cheers
