The fool

Peter Zentjens

The fool

I’ve got something with eye’s and flowers, as you will notice when I upload more work. This one is, clearly, inspired by the Tarot card with the same name. It’s a 100% watercolour painting.

I wanted to join up with a surrealism group here, but I’m not sure if this would fit in there. I always call it surrealism, but isn’t it more somewhere on the borderline between surrealism and fantasy art?

With this I’ve introduced the 3 main areas of my artistic endeavors on to RB: still life photography, travel photography and watercolor paintings. I’m calling it a day.
Cheers

I would also like to focus your attention on RosaCobos incredibly beautiful and inspirational comment on this painting:
I can see that he sees….
I can feel that he is there waiting to open the egg of his own destiny.
But The Foold has not a destiny and he knows it!
The Eye…. peeing wide and wild the intensity of Life,
hidden behing the feminity of the flower..is tender and penetrating,
but not as much as he would love..
noone takes him seriously,
excepting the wise..
for you know. that famous quote…”The Fool that persists in his foolishness…..becomes wise”…....just I ponder about it.. and how come the wise can notice this…if his own wisedom makes him disregard such a vanity?

Oh this is just gorgeous. Is it a daisy? This would make sense seeing as the word “daisy” means “the day’s eye”. Well done.

  • Peter Zentjens replied

I’m totally depressed now. I’ve painted a white rose and you think it’s a daisy. :(
Oh, well, it’s hard to let it look like a rose with a big heart in the middle, but I need some room for those eyes. ;)
So, no, the flower was based on a white rose but actually in the painting it’s not supposed to look like anything real anymore.
Anyway, I’m having you on and I love your comment, it’s fabulous that it sparked you imagination. Cheers.

The fool’s eyeball, as the flower centre, and the earth as a bird’s egg, are both humorous and weird.

    And a fried egg sun!!

Superb style and composition, Peter – and in my favourite medium.
A sure fave, to make me smile.

  • BLYTHART

    BLYTHART

This is very beautiful in a surrealist sense … I’d love to see more of these fantasy flowers … are there any displayed elsewhere, or maybe you will upload more onto Redbubble. I shall put you on my watchlist and wait patiently to see what you do next.

  • Peter Zentjens replied

Hi Blythart, thank you very much for your comment and for putting me on your watchlist. These fantasy flowers are something I’ve been drawing the better part of my life. Yet there are only 8 paintings in existence if I’m counting correctly. They will all appear here, eventually, but a few of them are framed and those will take a while before I get to scanning them. So, if you can’t wait, check out my website zgallery-art.com and look for “the bedroom collection”. Cheers.

  • BLYTHART

    BLYTHART

Peter .. I have just seen your bedroom collection and would suggest others may also like to take a look ... use Peter’s link for the main site and this if you wish to start with the flowers.

  • Peter Zentjens replied

Thank you Blythart, the next one in line to be put up for sale as print etc here on redbubble will be “Circle of life”. The scan has been made but I need to calibrate my monitor and make sure the scan is clean before I can upload it.

Love the peaceful effect of your light colors. Surrealism stays a definition which can be intrepertated in more ways. It’s might be that what you see as ‘reality’ defines your intrepetation of surrealism…

  • Peter Zentjens replied

Thank you Sebastiaan. And I must say I agree, I guess that somebody’s reality can be somebody else’s surreality. :)

    Oh Peter….
How come didn’t you submmit it to Tarot: Map of Consciousness
May be you did not know about the existence…
    I invite it!!!!
I can see that he sees….
I can feel that he is there waiting to open the egg of his own destiny.

The Eye…. peeing wide and wild the intensity of Life,

In case you do not have any word… description or whatever that is needed for the submmission… you can use mine… or yours adapting mine.. whatever, but please….go in… I love it and he is surreal, ideal, fantastic…. precious, Peter)

  • Peter Zentjens replied

I’m no good with words Rosa, nor was I aware of the existence of the group. I’ll be happy to join and upload this work to it pinching your words though, I couldn’t have said it any better, what an incredibly lovely comment!

  • RosaCobos

    RosaCobos

Oh… each one has a gift and this is destined specially to fullfill oneself.
I am happy or floody or alive when I write and I receive much from the soul of the images. And though you are saying that you are not good with words, I have liked the description to you have added to the work. It makes us feel closer to your imagination and endevours about art. It really does. You have taken your time to explain, to be confident of your experiences… that is what it minds. What things are for you, not what any “Wikipedia-reader” is telling about The Fool or whatever, that though it is a practical thing… it has not commitment with the real expression of what or who we are.
A hug for you…I am eager to have your works in Tarot:Map…...
    Rosa

Oh.. because we were left “with the honey in our lips” and anxious to see your work here shinning..and because we have fallen in love with this Fool’s love for the nature…this Eye of Wisdom and Sensibility….and because we hope that your art will keep on entering in our “home”...this Fool… deserves it!!
