Forgotten

I wouldn’t like to feed the photographers for which this photo is the plain and simple truth.
Another instalment in my Nostalgia series although a little different then usual in the set-up. It’s a lot simpler a composition then most of my work, but let me assure you, it was so much harder to get right!
Shot with my relatively new Pentax K10D and a very old Pentax-A 1:1.7 50mm objective.

Von McKnelly
It rocks Peter…the focus on the lens is brilliant.
Peter Zentjens replied
Thank you very much Von,
I worked hard on this guy to get him the way I wanted him. :)
Alf Caruana
well done mate, your post work is excellent. Something very special about old cameras
Peter Zentjens replied
Thanks Alf, I guess that something very special is because we are photographers. :)
dearhonestyx
this is neat.
really great lighting.
Peter Zentjens replied
Thanks, I put a lot of love in my light here. :)
Peter Hill
I wish sometimes I had the discipline to achieve perfection such as this. Or, more correctly, to attempt it. The faultless result invokes a sad nostalgia. I say carry on with the series!
Peter Zentjens replied
What a huge, huge compliment.
Thank you mate.
Gareth Bowell
Brilliant, just brilliant.
Peter Zentjens replied
Thank you Gareth, and thank you for all the fav’ing
Evan Ludes
Awesome shot, very dramatic lighting.
Peter Zentjens replied
Thank you Evan. If it would sound so wrong, I’d say I’m a bit of a drama queen if it comes down to lighting. ;)
debsphotos
Ohhh…Fantastic Peter!!! All your efforts are well worth it!!!! Spot-on image!! *-)
Peter Zentjens replied
Thanks Deb!
Taschja Hattingh
Oh, I knew this would be one of your works, as I moderate the works I can see a wonderful picture and though to myself….may be this is one of Peters pic’s…and it is!!! Love this, the focus and the gaussian blur, gives a new dimension to the old camera and you know sepia…..always a winner in my books! Well done!!!
Peter Zentjens replied
Thank you ever so much my dear Taschja,
but here comes the best part: it’s not sepia! Seriously, it’s a colour shot with a warped white balance and a set-up chosen for it’s colours. There was also no gaussian blur used. What you see all happened in camera except that, as usual, I mix several images into one to help me create the light effect that would be next to impossible to achieve pure by waving my flash light about. :)
Taschja Hattingh
You are so clever! The painting with light is your forte!
Peter Zentjens replied
Thanks again. ;)
midzing
fantastic image,,, well done Peter
Peter Zentjens replied
Thanks midzing
Cordelia

Peter Zentjens replied

RosaCobos
Yes…. they are all lined up in solitary rows in many second hand stores.
Powedered..aged…..
Your hommage is hearty…and beautiful, too.
Rosa
Peter Zentjens replied
Thank you Rosa,
right here behind me is a showcase full of these beauties of different brands. Some of them have even been used by me when I studied photography, or later, when I travelled. There is even a Mamiya 645 in perfect working order amongst them, now only a piece of decoration.
A little sad it is, but then again, we have to move on…
stevendesiow
The treatment is superb.
Peter Zentjens replied
Thanks Steven, like I mentioned to other commenters, almost everything you see happened in camera. The treatment bit comes down to “melting” serveral shots together for the different light angles.
Jacqueline Baker
Another piece of fantastic light work Peter and like the others i vote you carry on with this series! :0)
Peter Zentjens replied
Thank you for your vote Jacqueline, I’m sure I will. ;)

This attracted my attention because it was a minolta camera completely wreaked. That what I wished had happened to my first one it was such a lemon, but what kept me here was reading the great piece on lighting, I am so trying this. Thanks for opening yet another door to my imagination. I think your work and Emil’s are amazing.
Peter Zentjens replied
O please do try, it’s much fun to experiment with and drop me a line when you share those experiments here on the bubble.

had to smile at your comment about “feeding the photographers” ... how true that is!!! My old Nikon 35mm is sitting in a corner waiting for me to come back … has such a hopeful little look in its one eye!!!! Bless it … and bless your Minolta … they were our pride and joy once …
Peter Zentjens replied
O well,
maybe they are sitting in some corner today, unused, yet, maybe my title is wrong, for they will never be forgotten. Have a whole collection of old cameras behind my back in a glass display and I’m often looking at them very fondly
Steven Sandner
Wicked processing Peter! and what a brilliant shot!
Peter Zentjens replied
Thanks Steven, very much so!
Aaron Craven
Great image! This SRT-101 may be forgotten, but I’m still using mine… same lens too (along with a few others). Of course, most of my shots these days are digital, but I still frequently pull out the Minolta for fun.
Peter Zentjens replied
I never shot with this guy. I would NEVER have let it gotten in such a state of disrepair. It was a present from a friend who knows I collect old camera’s. Thanks for the comment Aaron!

I have a very old Minolta, (like the one above) and I just love to look at it from time to time. The lens’ have long ago gotten mould in them, but I remember the wonderful photos it used to take….........
Peter Zentjens replied
I love it when an image of mine triggers something like fond memories, after all, isn’t that part of Nostalgia and hence what I’m trying to achieve with this series?
ltruskett
Nostalgia is such a wonderful special gift.
Peter Zentjens replied
I guess it’s part of someone’s soul or it isn’t. I mean, weather you like it or not. I guess it’s partly to balance out my love for high tech stuff. :)

ooo! vary pretty and a great idea for the hole nostalgia theme!
tho.. was this a personal camera that has had some rough times or did you set up the composition?
Peter Zentjens replied 9 days ago
Hey, that’s strange, I replied to this 4 days ago but can’t see my reply any more! Again then:
I collect old cameras and now and again friends donate stuff they find on their or their grandparents or whatever attic. This camera came to me in that fashion, only, it was to dirty and to damaged to be taken into my collection. But I found another good use for it, as you can see. ;)
Cheers for the comment!

What can I add that hasn’t been already pointed out! Just that for me this nostalgia is especially sweet, as this was my first camera. And though I went on to own Nikons, Leicas etc. – this was always my favorite. If I could have one camera back, this would be it.
Peter Zentjens replied 9 days ago
It’s always great to hear that your art triggered an emotion. Specially, for me, it it’s nostalgia! Cheers for the comment UnEasy, much appreciated!
