This is a vacation picture of a friend of mine. It is a Flash painting, in which the background is what I have typically done with Flash—paint bucket in solid, linear or radial gradients. When doing the subject’s skin and features, I departed from my usual.
I placed a base flesh tone and added a layer of skin overtones. The overtones were mainly radial gradients with lower color opacities. The outer color opacity of the radial gradient was set to zero in order to blend with the base flesh tone.
To reproduce the texture of certain fabrics in the background I also added an additional layer of paint daubs or pointillism at high magnification.
