Primary roles: grandfather, craftsman and gardener
Secondary roles: Teacher and researcher in the philosophy and practice of Technology – from the ancient crafts of wood, iron and stone working, through to digital machine logic and advanced computer applications.
Current research interest: Martin Heidegger’s ‘The Question Concerning Technology’ – which features the aspiration of ‘Techné’ – Plato’s ‘arts of the mind’. Here, all that we call art and all that we call technology (or science) come together into a creative whole.
Past life: RAAF pilot – where I developed a respect for the air and a passion for ornithology.
Dislikes: The word ‘hobby’ – it implies the most significant things we do in our lives are trivial. Everything I do in life is my life.
Stuart Rushton hosts Techné - the intersection of art and technology and is a member of Aeronautics & Aviation, Australian Native Plants, Birds Of Prey (3 per day), Forests NEED CO-HOST and Heritage in Stone.
