The Pied Piper of Hamelin

As an explanation to my latest pictures

and

I have decided to post an overview over the legend of the Pied Piper. Very much detailed information can be found on More about the Pied Piper

The story is, that the city of Hamelin had a major rat problem and they promised whomever got rid of the rats a sack of gold. The Pied Piper answered their call and led the rats away. However, the city of hamelin did not pay him and so the following night he led away the children like he did with the rats.

Now about the ending, there are several ones. One is, that he led them itno a mountain another one that he led them into the land called Cockaigne (Schlaraffenland) with huge Carnival, etc. However, I read a book in which the idea was brought up that he led them there, with no way back out and so they found themselves in this land that seemed to have everything and yet they were caged.
It did not help, that the world aroudn them changed with them. The more angry the children became at being chained, the bigger their fear grew, the darker and more dangerous the place became – reacting to the children’s emotions. That version was one of my favourite ones and remembering that part of the story, I shot those two pictures.

I hope now it is a bit clearer, why my pictures carry the name of the Pied Piper of Hamelin :c)

xoxo warm regards,

Giovanna

i am very similar to you, i also like to read and write stories to help inspire my photography. I think it brings a new level of focus and helps with composition issues.
