This picture is for a friend! GE Diesel Electrics at the Summit of the White Pass. The GE Diesel Electrics date back to the sixties, the passenger coaches in the photo date back as far as the turn of the nineteen hundreds. Photo taken in the Yukon Territory, Canada in August, 2011.
The White Pass and Yukon Route was established at the zenith of the 1898 Alaska gold rush. The town of Skagway ,Alaska went from 200 or 300 souls to 20,000 or more people almost over night. The famous enviourmentalist James Muir said Skagway was, “like an ant hill that someone stirred up with a stick.”
