This photo taken in my backyard, shows a beautiful little Varied Thrush as she stands against the storm during a snow flurry in Sammamish, Washington. My wife, Lenka, tells me she saw this bossy little miss tangling with some of the other smaller birds around the bird feeder. I read these thrushes can be a bit aggresive around the bird feeder and Lenka saw her taking charge! She is proud and strong!

Born and raised in the logging town of Snoqualmie, Washington (the logging days in Snoqualmie are mostly in the past now). I currently reside in Issaquah, Washington. My Canon Rebel 450D was a Christmas gift that has kept on giving me hours and hours of pleasure. I recently aquired a Canon 5D Mark II and I am now learning to use this awesome instument. I hope you enjoy these pictures half as much as I enjoyed capturing them!

She is beautiful, and you seem to be enjoying this area of photography wonderfully! Show us more, as I do not see these birds on the east coast!

  • Thanks Pamela, I do enjoy it. It is challenging because there is no time to think so I shoot 100 shots to get one that might be worth showing! Since my son Michael got me a bird feeder for Christmas I have a lot of new friends and they don’t seem to mind having their pictures taken :-) I will get some more up soon. It is cool to see all the birds on the East Coast that I didn’t know existed, so the feeling is mutual!

I’ve never seen one of these Dale. What a beautiful little bird and so well photographed. Excellent. :)

  • Thanks Kathy, that is a real compliment coming from a uber wildlife photographer like you and I really appreciate it. They are real bossy little things and everyone around them need to respect their authority. After I started watching the birds closely I realized they all have such cool and varied personalities.
