Yosemite National Park, California, USA

Last light on a November Day in Yosemite overlooking the Merced River. Here I utilized the leaning tree as a counterpoint to the vibrant fall colors which glowed against the cool shadow of the thousands of feet high granite cliffs that makes Yosemite what it is.

How long before the tree falls into the Merced?

This was my very last shot of the day before we headed back on the long road home. I was tired from being up and shooting well before dawn and almost didn’t get out of the car for this one last look out from the ancient stone bridge to see what could be seen. Over time we forget those moments of challenge and are glad we put forth the effort. I was indeed blessed to witness such a spectacular moment in time.

I started photographing when I was 14, taking slides with an early Pentax 35mm. I took a photography class at 16 and began using a 4×5 view camera with my own darkroom. In 2002 digital emerged which envigorated my passion in the visual arts. In the last 5-6 years I’ve started documenting and developing a visual framework to cultivate “seeing” that can be shared with others on their path of becoming visual artists.

And when it does will anyone hear it?

This is a stunning shot and it would be brilliant to see a shot of after it’s sad but natural fall.

What astounds me is the sheer magnitude of the cliff face behind it! We have big mountains but they just gently slope up nothing so magnificent as the mountains of this area!
    STUNNING! ♦♥♦

  • The granite cliffs at Yosemite are at least 3,000’ high!

    Thanks!
