Children we play
acting as if
testing our powers
treading the boundaries
in unknown foundries
testing the hold
boldly entering wonders
to find treasures of gold
somewhere the adult is off working
somewhere where duties are called
somewhere a door left open
somewhere a banquet is sprawled
lessons taught so long ago
have staying power
from days of old
you will be punished for your curiousity.
an authoritative challenge
but believeth not
as deer avoids traffic and headlights
moved as shadowy liquid stealth on the sharp defined edges
let us have a discerning curiosity.
who made these rules
what was the motivation?
adventure is oxygen that enlivens spirit
my physical daring was interrupted
by body chemistrymedical necessity
interventions of questionable intention . . .
there is no doctor in charge of me
nor any other being man nor woman
suspended by the hand and harness of faith
the leash is not as short
time and circumstance will train
my feet . . .
which have their own wisdom.
I asked the kidney bean shaped tumor
retracted high in my arch
Tell me . . .
what say thee? . . .
a whisper sliced forth
I strained to hear
some musing on a day of freedom
are we not always and ever children?
