gratitude amid an uneven life . . . .

and so the hard labor begins . . .
no gym membership
my muscles form in response to taxing physical work
and as I mow up and down hills around trees and shrubbery
collecting winter sticks
in collections of tinder
budding branches poke and cover me
almost stealing my hat
I clutch the handle harder
and set my face like flint
my back steels into the work before me
and I hate it
and I love it.
and I thank my God for a strong body
that is not afraid to sweat and work
and I glory in the present season
while I still enjoy the joys of being a woman . . . .

my neighbor shuffles feebly about his drivway
and I drop my task at hand to briskly walk over and say hello
to inquire about his treatments
is he better?
no. more ghastly battles wear him down.
and though he is younger than me
he is so very worn
and volunteers his weight is 132 lbs
same as me. . . . .
i hold his gaze with helpless tenderness
i promise to pray for him
and I do . . . .

and so the hard labor continues . . . .
no gym membership
a life of simple labor
labors of love
art adventures
longings of love
deep gratitude
and prayers of intercession
stream from my eyes
doggedly pushing
under my willows
under my hat
under the umbrella of
the unknown
of fortune
and misfortune
in this present season of life.

gratitude amid an uneven life . . . . by

amid all things of my life that are difficult, unsettled
amid all the problems I know not how to solve . . . .
today I am one of the fortunate ones . . . .

enjoy making direct work from natural materials in my prairie and wildlife sanctuary.
i am a very restless person and I work in many different ways with a variety of media.

One cannot collect all the beautiful shells on the beach. One can collect only a few, and they are more beautiful if they are few.

Wonderful account of acceptance, something I often suffer from the lack of until I get my head right. Brilliant write Y.

  • it’s never really easy for any of us Tony . . . seeing/experiencing the suffering of another challenges our acceptance and expectations of this life. Thank you for the kind words. :))

Yvonca, you seem to recognize that wellbeing and feelgood hang on by a thread… for every you, there is a shuffling neighbor. And it`s a heads or tails as to which one we will be tomorrow.
But I choose not to dwell on that thought, and like you I just put my back into my life while I`ve got the ability to do so. No gym membership for me, I just mow the lawn and take the stairs when there`s a perfectly functioning elevator. Cause tomorrow I might be forced to take it.
I love that your take on life and love is as it is.
You are a true citizen of the earth :-)

  • that’s some high praise Billy, thank you dearly. yes life can change in a blink and it can go many ways. i hope I deeply appreciate my blessings and have the courage to grab my opportunities by the horns and ride them into glorious fruition. :)))
and I love that you are a true citizen of more than this planet and a cat lover to boot!!! LOL. :)))

Indeed life is a laborious feat at times Yvonca. This is precisely why I’ve learned to cherish the ease of beauty brought about by such wonderful people like yourself. You always bring a smile to my face or tear to my eye and for that I am eternally grateful :-)

Disclaimer: Was in gym at 3 a.m. this morning ;-P

  • thanks Steve. Really there is beauty everywhere isn’t there? :)))
i’m doing some bicep curls with some sweet potato chips right now. :-P
