Although it is nice to draw out of the imagination, you never know what or who might hitchhike a ride. I was deliberately trying to NOT draw my features on this one . . but I think as artists something of ourselves always comes thru so that everything to some degree is a self portrait.
It has been refreshing to switch to another medium and pastel can be a lot of fun.

Pastel on black Canson paper.
20 × 24″

enjoy making direct work from natural materials in my prairie and wildlife sanctuary.
i am a very restless person and I work in many different ways with a variety of media.

One cannot collect all the beautiful shells on the beach. One can collect only a few, and they are more beautiful if they are few.

Wonderfully dramatic baby girl. I like it!

  • Fun to work on that black paper, it actually makes everything seem more dramatic. Thank you so much for the great support!!

My how interesting Yvonca.. not your usual style to be sure, and I can see the attempt to not translate your own sense of self into the image…. You are probably right in that its impossible to divorce and detach entirely.. but good on you for changin the tempo… nice :))

  • :)) Thank you Jim. well i knew I wanted to try a version of a mainly primary color scheme (I usually dont care for them). i do like this one. Then I wanted to try a redhaired lass cuz I never did one before (would have loved to be a red hair) but usually redhairs dont wear red . . . so I messed with that too. soo nice to make art for joy. I appreciate your lively comment here!!

Pastel is my favourite medium. This is absolutely beautiful. xx

  • do you work in pastels Jane?? I have only used them years ago, but I came across my Mother’s box of soft pastels and they ARE so buttery smooth. I am experimenting with blenders, Qtips, erasers and . . of course FINGERS! Thank you for your comment here. xx

(is trysting in place like treading a mill?)

  • trysting as simply a favored and probably secluded meeting place
but NOT a meating place which is of course at the butchermans shop.
okay number 7 ~ how do you want that baloney sliced?

This is wonderful. And I’ve noticed something similar—-my features do seem to come through when I draw!

  • we can’t help it. To some degree everything is autobiographical work. :)) thanks for chiming in with your thoughts!
