Summer is time to experiment with different mediums and ways of working. This is a big ole experiment in trying out a very nice heavy tan Arches paper with a variety of grades of graphite leads and mixing pastels. Playing with toned paper and pulling out highlights and layering transparent effects. Sometimes I am drawing with pencil first then layering pastel over it and then I switched and tried the pencil on top of pastel. I do like the effect on this paper. The sp is a bizarre exploration of costume design and I think it is quite odd . . . but learned a few things. One of which pastel dust is not good to breath and masks are helpful and a small dust buster is needed. Mine is broke. Students often take drawing classes to improve or learn to draw. Many of them are young writers, crafting fantasy works and then they want to try to illustrate their characters. I will base a project off this example.
28 x22" size Arches paper.
