I can’t believe I CAUGHT The King’s Locust!
I just don’t know what to do with it!!
It’s WAY sparkly I can’t get a good enough shot that catches the effect.

Mixed media, every single kind of metallic ink and paint, colored pencils, pastels, powder pastels and fairy dust.

enjoy making direct work from natural materials in my prairie and wildlife sanctuary.
i am a very restless person and I work in many different ways with a variety of media.

One cannot collect all the beautiful shells on the beach. One can collect only a few, and they are more beautiful if they are few.

This is fabulous Yvonca. Obviously a photograph shows it like ti is physically… but through your magical organic interpretation I feel the wonder of finding locust shells on our front lawn after a major invasion when I was a kid… all those intricate snags and bumps WERE like a king`s jewels and crown through my eyes back then. They carried the same mystic attraction as fireflies. We used to catch them in a jar and there was enough light to use it to read by :-) We always punched plenty of holes in the top and gave them lots of grass to eat and were always surprised to find them dead the next morning… one of the reasons I will probably NOT be seeing you in heaven…

Since moving to Brussels I never saw a locust shell again, and only once a firefly when we visited friends in Atlantic City 15 years ago (lucky basterd got away this time…:-) So your King`s Locust really floated my boat this AM. You brought back some cool thoughts to this aging rocker`s weary brain cells.
Which you actually do with everything you post :-)

  • oh you better be in heaven Billyboy, I have a foozeball tournement lined up with Jimi Hendrix and Ben Franklin and you are on my team! Must get giantic angelic tweezers to snatch you! Please wear loose clothing . . but not too loose. :)) ha haaa Yeah, we share that same wonder of fireflys and locust. I appreciate the hell out of you BB. :)))) x

Amazing. I can’t imagine what it takes to inject this kind of detail, especially since I’m about as detailed as a pimple.

  • Well it is definitely a God- thing. :)) We all have our areas we rock in. Thanks.

Wow…this is really awesome, Y. I’m impressed with all of the detail- especially in the hair. I love that it looks as if it’s lying on a microscopic slide- very cool. :)

  • Thanks B!!! It was an unexpected piece that I did not plan to do, but began to devlop it and couldn’t wait to see the final generation. The frame is black and gold carved ornate and very deep. The viewer will look thru two concentric black oval with gold webbing on the edges or inside glass. I will try to photograph when I finish framing. I am entering it into a show. I always appreciate your thoughts and hope you are keeping your head above water with your heroic studies!! xx
