Splendid image. My first impression was of a painting or a very detailed artwork. the texture, colors and comp are wonderful excellent photograph. Thanks for sharing with the Art of the Middle East group
it does look like a painting at first look. But what exactly are we looking at? What are the pools etc?
it is a cluster of bathes with natural products (including pigeon droppings, hence the smell!) to treat , process, and colour leather… On the roofs the pieces on yellow leather are drying in the sun.

I have to concur with Eyal. I too thought it was a painting and even as you study it now knowing it’s a photograph it still looks like a painting and a very beautiful one at that! This is a simply perfect photo and hehe, I wish I had taken it! : 7 )
yes i have no idea myself how the texture of the subject can look so much more as a painting than as a photo…
Thank you for your great comment!

This is a fascinating image and I was glad of the explanation from the photogapher. It is indeed very painterly and is the most beautiful tannery I’ve ever seen. (Glad I can’t smell it though!!) Brilliant photography!
thank you so much for your kindness,
