A Hutsul is a Carpathian highlander in another part of Ukraine, higher up than the Boykos. I saw this fellow walking down the road and told the driver to screech to a halt. I couldn’t believe that there were still people out there wearing traditional embroidery in an everyday situation. It was a week day in the afternoon.

Nikon F3, Hp5 bw film iso 400. Shot at f 5.6 1/125 sec with a normal 50mm nikkor lens. It was sepia toned in photoshop.

An amazing capture Y.. Gives a wonderful look for me into this old world tradition-style.. Interesting too how his belt is seen here.. He looks like a friendly man.. Like the sepia tones here too.. ~:)

  • Thank you LJ. He was quite a visual treat to behold. These people are very self sufficient. In the old days they would even make their own threads for sewing.

How many people on RB know who hutsuls are? :) I DO! :))) I have a picture in hutsul costume from my years of pro-dancing career! :)
