As many as 14 dogs start the race between Fairbanks Alaska and Whitehorse Yukon every February [the start alternates between the two cities] After 1600 km of mostly unserviced trail over three mountain ranges the team must finish with at least 6 dogs. Dogs dropped from the team must be dropped at designated spots and examined by a veterinarian.
these dogs are bred to run and are therefore difficult pets for anyone not willing to exercise them on a regular basis.

Played with photography since early High School. Since moving to the Yukon in 1997 I have become much more involved and am now comfortable in Photoshop although there is always more to learn. the Yukon is a great canvas and would recommend it for most everyone’s Bucket List

Nice action shot… love the blue!
Thanks – it is fun trying to capture these dogs as they move pretty fast at the start [adrenalin]. The blue is late afternoon shadows [late afternoon being about 3 in February]

Amazing capture! I notice the dogs are wearing booties to protect their feet. They look like they’re enjoying their run.
The mushers take good care of their dogs as they are looking at a 1600 km run. thanks for looking in and commenting
