Formal Flora and Architecture by

Watercolor pencil on “smooth” textured watercolor paper.

Small painting…..about 10″ × 12″

This was my very first attempt at using the watercolor pencil medium. The painting was another of my old pieces started years ago with watercolor……and never finished. I decided to try the pencils… be kind if you comment….:)))))

But, I would also be delighted if anyone would like to critique or give me hints or tips on using this form of watercolor.

This is really gorgeous Kate, you have mastered the medium very well if this is your first attempt!! it is a favourite of mine, I like the way I can get very watercoloury effects or go the other way and get very pencilly effects! Feel free to browse through my portfolio, a lot of my works are done using this medium, if you want some inspiration! (And happy to answer any questions about how I use them if you have any) My advice though, is just to keep on using them, you will gradually find your own style and ways to use them!

  • Hi Alexandra. I have been away from the bubble for awhile and have just returned recently…….but I remember your beautiful work and just went back to see it again. How talented and prolific you are! Yes, you will be my watercolor pencil inspiration indeed my dear. I will be using the pencils more. Thanks for your very lovely comment.

I have used watercolor pencils before but never with these FABULOUS results. I’ve always used them with washes as detailing or texturing. This is stunning work. You have a lovely home in Jasper, GA!

  • Hi there my friend! Are you thinking I live in this home in this painting!!!!!!!
HA HA HA……..I wish! Thank you Seth for that “fabulous” comment. I do like the watercolor pencils because I can get detail AND watery effect. You know me… to have that detail :))))
