this is really professional work, kate. i cannot imagine how to do like this.

  • Oh, thank you Hidemi! First, I did a freehand ink drawing, then I scanned it into a software program called Corel PhotoPaint…..and then used the programs’ digital paintbrushes and color fills for the color.

I was aware from some earlier work that we both have illustrator backgrounds as graphic or commercial artist, and I’m still very impressed with your skill level. Wonderful work. We both love old Charleston.

  • Hi Jim! Thank you for such a very lovely comment. I am sure your graphic art background is much grander than mine, but I have done some freelance graphic work for business friends and worked for a small design company for a short period. But my great love is fine art. Charleston IS a lovely city…….we are just two diehard Carolinians. Have a great arty day my friend

Beautifully coloured work Kate. Excellent rapidograph drawing. I love the rapidograph myself. It’s great that one can get different sized nibs.

  • I do too Orla. I have a bunch of nibs ( old pen…old nibs ) which I have let get yucky,….haven’t used them in so long. But they are great. Ink flows beautifully. Thanks for the wonderful comment.

Love this one Kate. Don’t know how I missed it! I don’t know how you do this sort of work or what PhotoPaint is, but the effect is amazing!!! You are a clever girl!!!

  • Have you been having that trouble too? Really, I think some works from my watchlist are falling through the cracks, or else I just haven’t gotten real used to the new format yet. PhotoPaint is a software program whereby you open up a file. photo or drawing and you can manipulate it in all sorts of artistic ways. It’s Corel’s version of Adobe PhotoShop. I just scanned in the basic freehand ink drawing and put the color in in PhotoPaint. You would enjoy it Lynda. It’s fun to “muck” around with. Did I use that word right? Thanks dear gal for the sweet comment. Hugs.

Hey Kate, this is a wonderful graphic image. You’ve really captured the feel of that area with your style. I have a brother who lives in Charleston, so I’l have to have him check this out. He should appreciate the image. Cheers!

  • Thank you Michael for your really nice comment. Charleston is a beautiful city….lots of history. Was your brother living there when Hugo hit?Very sweet of you to give him a heads up on my drawing. You’re too kind. Take care my friend.

Very fine detail and strong colours. The reflection on the buldings, as if on a bright sunny day. This reminds me of a cartoon background. Excellent!

  • Thanks Colin. That is exactly the way I see it too. When I finished it, I looked at it, and it reminded me of my comic book days in the “fifties”. What a long long time ago.
