Artist's Description

Acrylic on canvas.

Paintings done for a university press for a series of chapter paintings used in a school history textbook printed there.

Of course, most people know that these are the three ships which sailed the Atlantic in 1492 to The New World …….some say the most important voyage in history. Christopher Columbus sailed in the lead ship, the three masted Santa Maria, which was probably between ninety and one hundred feet long and close to thirty feet wide. Two smaller ships, Nina and Pinta also made the journey. The Santa Maria wrecked while in the New World, so Columbus returned to Spain in the Nina.

This was an enjoyable project for me. I learned so much from the researchers whom I worked with. Authenticity was one of the most important requirements.
