Made in China is not my favorite thing to see when I buy stuff at Walmart. I would love to see more stuff made in the USA.
And the people who promote “Made in China” say that we now have a global economy. And it is necessary to do this because american workers do not produce goods at a low enough cost. Etc. Etc.
But the problem with this “Made in China” idea is that we also do not have enough american jobs either. We have a shrinking middle class.
Also the our trading partners have special rules that prohibit us from selling our goods in their countries….I admit that I dont know how big of a factor this is….but I dont like it, in any case.
So what do we do?
I suggest that some system be developed. I have not figured out a definite system yet. But here is a start. Suppose we legislate that all wholesalers and retailers must sell 30% of their goods that are made in America.
Or we could specify that all heavy equipment sold in America are made in America……or all computers sold in America are made in America…..or 50% of all heavy equipment and computers. Whatever! I leave it to the experts (not me) to come up with some reasonable industrial policy…..a policy that provides a few more jobs…for heaven sakes!…..our people are suffering!!!
Whatever the percentage, it would be set so that american domestic good producers could not take advantage of the situation and become complacent in their production.
You see, I do want capitalism. But I want regulated capitalism.
But I think unfettered capitalism does not have any reasonable amount caring for the middle and under classes. Corporations do not even want to provide jobs to the middle class unless it is absolutely necessary to further their capitalistisc (albeit selfish) aims.
OK, I am done here…I obviously need to further develop this idea….but I am not smart enough…so I need your input. So go ahead ….give me your idea. Counter me.
Made in China cannot work forever!
