I am exploring ideas I have to help rid the effect of money on our democracy. And I know that I have not fully worked out all the details. But how about this one for starters.
Suppose we shortened the time between the first primary and the election. This first primary would be a “Super Tuesday” with one third of the states on the ballot. Then there would be two additional ""Super Tuesdays" with the other thirds of the states on the ballot.
Every election a different group of states would have the first “Super Tuesday” so everyone would get the chance to be first.
I think the time between the first “Super Tuesday” and the election could be about 6 months. Voila, a shorter time to campaign and less time for a candidate to spend money. And also less need for a candidate to raise money and be beholding to special interest groups and corporations.
Now it is up to you to motivate your respective Democratic and Republican representatives to have a meeting to start talking about this. Yes, I believe that the parities and their cooporate friends are the major obstact to implementing this or a similar idea.
Could this idea work? Please counter me.
I believe Great Britain does this.
