Yehan Wang was born in Shanghai, China, in 1959. He gradated from the Fine Academy of Shanghai in 1980, and then specialized in computer graphic design while attending Fine Arts classes at The George Brown College of Toronto, Canada. When young he was influenced by Klee, Joan Miro and Vassily Kandinsky. He lives and works both in Shanghai and Vancouver.
In 1986, he appeared in “the first exhibition of young artists in Shanghai”, and received the silver award. This award triggered many other exhibitions in both Asia – Singapore, Macau, Shanghai, Ningbo, Guangzhou and Beijing – and North America – Toronto, Vancouver, Florida and Louisiana.
Wu Liang – art critic in Shanghai – expressed himself about Yehan in 2007: “You can never know where on the canvas the artist started to paint first as if the creation has no beginning or no end. To paint such a painting is like to self-entertain with words incapable of presenting a whole idea, or like to take minor steps onto a journey without destination, or to partake in the process of creating a living thing behind a closed door. The huge array is self-governing and condensed and the meaning of which carries no relation to the outside world (…) the works of Yehan are not to be interpreted”.www.yehanart.com
