Thunderstorms are unpredictable at the best of times but sometimes mother nature can deliver a gift of an electrical storm. This image was taken November 30th 2012 at about 10pm ish. It was a stormy week but the lightning finally started to strike closer to home. I simply took the Canon 1Dmk IV with a tripod to the beach closest to where I live, set it up, focused and started shooting straight away. It was the quickest I’d ever had to shoot a thunderstorm. And the ferocity was over in about 20 minutes. This shot was a long exposure of about 2 and a half minutes. I literally left the shutter open, ran back to the car to get something and closed the shutter when I got back – to find this wonderful frame painting.
