The distinctive landmark of the harbour of Wells-Next-the-Sea in Norfolk is the granary with its overhanging gantry on the quay, built around 1903-1906.
Boats would arrive fully laden at the quay and the goods would be winched up directly into the store . It was a significant port in the sixteenth century with 19 ships over 16 tons burden operating out of Wells in 1580, making it the major port in the area
This building is now converted to luxury apartments, the majority with magnificent views of the harbour and sunsets. Goods arrive in large trucks nowadays.
